Chapter 3
After Sarah's whole family died she went to a palm reader. The palm reader said that she needed to build on to something to keep her life going or something bad would happen, and she listened. This is where it all started. In 1884 Sarah bought a farmhouse to build on. She built and built and didn't stop building. The house had 7 stories at one point but in 1904 an earthquake struck and knocked down the top 3 floors.
There was one thing that Sarah never told anybody, the spirits. Sarah was actually trying to build a haunted house for spirits to come and go when they pleased. Kinda like a train station for spirits. Sarah used to do seances in the attic. Three numbers always appear around the house 7, 13, and 11. Now later in the story of the Winchester house, I'll tell you the special thing about these numbers but you might catch on quickly. At night Sarah would go into the seance room and invite 7 spirits to contact her. There would be 13 people holding hands for the seance. Everyone called Sarah crazy for this but she was just trying to talk to her family.
