Max trailed through the empty hallways between 4th and 5th period letting her mind drift to the unthinkable. She couldn't help but remember what Mike had said and done to her the previous afternoon.
'I should have done more she thought opening the bathroom door and walking into the first stall. She whipped out her phone and scrolled throughout text messages. She kept reading one after the next of sweet nothings and sexual conversations. She leaned against the stall door and brought her phone to her chest tapping the top corner.
'I wonder if he's busy tonight' she thought hoping for a repeat of yesterday.
Mike texted the group chat "my house tonight at 6 for sunset"
Max smiled at her phone. She couldn't believe it.
Everyone arrived at different paces and by the time everyone was at the condo, the group had headed into the gym. Inside was a half-court basketball court and a weight room with a sauna.
"Wanna play some one on one?" Max asked juggling the basketball between her hands. Mike snatched the basketball from her, in-between juggles, and dribbled into a layup. The two had this silent communication that made the group know when it was time to back of, so that's what they did. They allwent upstairs to the weight room which overlooked the court.
Mike had the upper hand, but that didn't stop either of them from playing to the best of their ability. After 20 minutes of playing the two were so tired all they wanted to do was was relax. The group left the gym and went towards the beach.
"We should go swimming" Eleven said to the group as they walked towards the beach. Max grabbed her hand and they both ran towards the water, kicking off their shoes and sliding off their shorts. Mike and the boys walked behind them watching them trail on.
"So how's it going with you two" Lucas said nudging Mikes shoulder. Lucas never liked Max too much, he always seen her as too boyish and not his type. "Good. I really like her." Mike said smiling towards her as she ran back up from the water soaking wet. Max ran closer up to him and jumped onto him, pushing him back into the sand. She laughed and wrapped her arms around his neck tighter. He kissed her cheek and brought them both back up to their feet, carrying her on his front.
"I guess they really do like each other" Dustin said nudging Lucas. They smiled and ran forwards to join El and Will in the water.
Later that night after the sun was finally set the sky was pitch black, and all you could see were the lights from skyscrapers and condos. Everyone was walking in one straight line except for Will and El up front fat talking and running every once in a while. The group walked making small talk for a while and after a while Lucas and Dustin went off on their own conversation walking behind Mike and Max and Will and El walked in-front. Each pair was distanced from each other to the point where they couldn't hear each others conversations.
Mike held out his hand and Max took it in hers as they walked. Mike stumbled into talking and tried to spark an interesting conversation between them.
After a while it was just Mike talking and Max listening. ,"my grandma went to a taro reader and she told me about everything thereader told her. It was about how im going to die." Mike said looking up at the stars. "What did she say?"Max questioned. "Well at first when my grandma was getting her palms read the woman had told her there was a young man in her life, and then explained my exact appearance and hobbies and stuff and she knew it was me.then she started on about how I get in the car with a friend who's drunk and we get in a car crash. So my mom never lets me out with anyone except herself and family unless were in a big group." Mike explained.
It seemed so crazy to Max, but for some reason she believed it too.
They spent a while in silence in their own trains of thought. It was weird because Max was so intrigued but these sorts of things, Taro, palm reading, crystals, all of it. It was hard for her not to believe it even if she didn't want to.
They continued to walk, now toward the condo again.
Mike and Max still holding hands began to approach the pool deck, when Dustin breaks their hands apart and takes one in each. "Cmon Ladies let's go!" He says in a high pitched girly voice skipping forward. Max and Mike giggle and then follow with him skipping too until Dustin let's go and walks into the pool deck.
The two fall into each-other laughing watching as Dustin continues skipping across the pool deck. "He's so dorky" Mike says watching him go on. "Yeah" max says laughing still watching him go.
