prompt: yknow it's not the same, as it was !
Nick's POV
i'm not actively looking to be in a relationship. me and my brothers kiddingly talk about searching for people in LA but it's nothing serious. at least it didn't use to be.
a guy added me on snap the other day. i don't usually accept those but we had mutual friends so, why not?
turns out he's a friend of Malcom's. and he showed me a shit ton of photos of him. he was really cute. his name's y/n.
it was around a year ago when he asked if i wanted to accompany him to a baseball game. now i wasn't too fond of this idea, seemed a little straight to me. but it wasn't just going to me and him. Malcom and my brothers would be coming too. only problem: the sox were playing too. and that was not the team my new friend was rooting for.
"do you want anything to eat or drink before we find our seats?" y/n asked, readjusting his angels cap.
"i could go for a cotton candy," i replied, trying to ignore Chris' not so subtle glare. i never understood why some sports were taken so seriously. all three of us wore our Boston gear proudly though.
"sure. pink or blue?" he took out his wallet. he was voluntarily paying for me?
"surprise me!" i smiled. "and you don't have to pay-" i started, reaching into my pocket.
"no no, it's fine. i'll be right back," he jogged over. Malcom followed, wanting to grab a new straw.
i turned to Matt and Chris.
"Chris i need you to cool it with the baseball rivalry shit," i laughed, thinking it was the dumbest thing in the world.
"oh i'm cool alright. he just seems very passionate about loving the worse team," Chris said condescendingly and shrugged.
"we won't ruin your date," Matt said, placing his hand on Chris' shoulder.
"it's not a date," i muttered under my breath, feeling my cheeks flush.we'd been watching the game for a while. and some remarks had been made.
"he looks mad goofy,"
"at least our uniforms fit the players,"
"who made it to the playoffs again?"
"no wonder no one knows who they are,"
"enough!" i finally said. "i've heard enough. Chris, you know i really want this to go well and you promised you'd shut the fuck up."
y/n looked at me, an apparent flush of embarrassment on his cheeks.
"i'm sorry Nick. i really like you and want this to go well too," he said apologetically.
"yeah, i'm sorry. i guess i just take the sox seriously?" Chris said, a bit surprised at himself. he definitely wasn't an aggressive person.
"thanks guys, let's just chill for the rest of this game, yeah?" i looked at everyone.Christmas this year was at our house in Boston. i of course invited y/n, i wanted my parents to meet him. we weren't anything serious at this time but we had kissed. and i really liked him. i wanted my mom to have a face to the name i blabbed about nonstop.
"who's this from?" my mom held up a blue wrapped present.
"it's from the three of us to y/n," Chris replied, sitting up in his Christmas pajamas.
"aw, thanks guys," y/n smiled kindly, carefully taking the strangely wrapped present from Marylou. when he unwrapped it there was a red sox baseball cap. he laughed to himself then put it on.
Nick laughed. it was supposed to be a sort of gag gift, reminiscing on the first time they'd hung out.
"i love it, it'll match the jerseys i got me and Nick," he grinned crossing his arms.
"you what??" Nick sat up. those jerseys were somewhat expensive. he caught the gift that Matt tossed him and opened it. it was a player on the red sox team.
"i came full circle," y/n teased and opened his arms for Nick.
Nick sprang up to hug his...boyfriend? best friend? soulmate? whatever they were, he loved it. he loved him.
"you know, it's not the same as it was," Matt chuckled to himself.
