It was the day of Hallo’s Eve, and every house on Elm was emptier of living things then the haunted cemetery on 24th. There were many houses on Elm, but only one was occupied by living things, all others were boarded up and some had a distinct burning smell, but all the houses…were haunted. On the south boarder of Elm, right next to the old boarded up warehouse, was a quaint little house owned by the Vandoom’s. The Vandoom’s was more of a Vandoom, since only one living being lived there, 17 year old, Vanessa Vandoom. Vanessa was an orphan since she was 12, when her parents mysteriously disappeared, never to be seen again. She was given money to survive and sent out on her own at only age 15, and the only house she could afford was the, so called, haunted house on Elm. Vanessa was tall, fearless, and beautiful. Her eyes were a light grey-blue with a hint of sea-green. Her hair was very long-flowing right down to the end of her back- that slightly waved. It was a beautiful sandy blond with bleach high lights. Her skin color was a nice light tan color. She wore a short, brown leather jacket, with a pale blue skinny strap tank top underneath. Every day she wore her favourite crimson red skinny jeans, and much worn out black leather boots. Vanessa went to north ridge high, because of government policies she was required to attend. She was a straight B student and one of the most popular girls in school, but no one new about her being an orphan, her parents being missing, or her living on her own. Right now Vanessa was eating her lunch beside the fountain. Vanessa dislikes hallo’s eve very much because it was a Hallo’s Eve night when her parents disappeared. After lunch her and the entire school body was to attend the annual school costume contest. Vanessa wasn’t into dressing up; she found it silly and disrespectful to wear costumes to school unless you were in a play. Before the contest began, her best friend- and most popular girl at school- Megan Ridge, ran up to her. Megan had short dark brown hair, which flowed perfectly to her shoulders not a strand out of place. She wore a skinny strap white dress and beautiful white feathered angle wings with a matching white halo. Her shoes were real silver six-inch high heels, with diamonds in crested into the heels. “Where were you at lunch Vanessa, we were talking about my annual Halloween party, oh and if you’re coming your bring chips” Megan said. “Sorry, you know Hallo’s Eve bums me out, and sure I’ll come,” Vanessa said. “Nothing better to do.” “Great see you there! Oh and why does Halloween bum you out, and why do you call it ‘Hallo’s Eve’?” “It just does ok.” Vanessa said, dead serious. “OK, OK don’t have to be so harsh about it.” As the Halloween contest began with a video presented by the computer club, soon followed the costumes. Every ghost after ghoul, every witch after warlock, and every princess after monster, the only costume that caught Vanessa’s attention was the final costume. It caught her attention only because it was just an ordinary ghost to the others, but, this ghost was so familiar to her that she screamed and ran out of the gym, into the girls change room and into a shower stall. Ok so let me explain. When Vanessa was younger she saw ghosts. She had play dates with them, tea parties, and played dress-up. She wasn’t afraid of them, oh no, she loved them like they were family, but one night, a different ghost came to play. This ghost was a female ghost. She wore a long white dress that was ripped up every were, her skin was as white as snow, and her eyes likewise. Her hair was the lightest blond that it looked white. It was exactly was long as Vanessa. And the ghost’s body was exactly like Vanessa to. She at first thought she was just another ghost, but then she started scaring her, Vanessa would turn around and she would be standing behind her. She got so scared of the ghost that whenever her ghost friends came to play, she would scream and cry and beg them to leave. Slowly one by one each ghost lost faith that Vanessa would ever be the same, and one by one the ghosts left. Only one ghost remand, the white lady, as Vanessa called her when she was little. Every night she would plead the ghost to leave, and one hallo’s night, she finally listened. For the white lady left, and with her, she took her parents. Until that night, five years ago, she never saw the ghost, until now. “Vanessa!!!” she heard someone call. “Vanessa are you in here!? It’s Megan!” Megan said. “I’m in here!” Vanessa yelled between cries. Megan opened the stall to see her best friend sitting in a ball in the corner, crying her eyes out. “Van what happened back there? You’re never afraid of anything…and that ghost wasn’t that scary anyway.” “It was nothing…I’m fine…” Vanessa said. “Are you sure? You bolted out of that room screaming like you just saw hell.” Megan said. “Can we just act like that never happened?” Vanessa pleaded. “I can, but the entire school…I don’t think so…” later that day…Vanessa had just got home and was sitting on her bed. She turned her head over and looked over at her Halloween costume. It looked exactly like the one the white lady wears but black. She had forgotten what she looked like when she bought it and now she’s afraid to go near it, let alone put it on. She eventually put on the costume, grabbed her bags of chips, and headed to the bus station. When she got to the kerb of Megan’s house she took a deep breath and knocked on the door. “Hey you made it!” Megan said as she opened the door. “Yeah I did.” Vanessa replied. “Oh good you brought the good chips! Angliyle brought…whole wheat sun chips.” Aaron said. Aaron was Megan and Vanessa’s best friend. Aaron took Vanessa’s hand and brought her into the middle of the living room and announced: “Hey everyone!! Guess who decided to show up!!” Aaron announced. And as every eyes came to face me everyone started to cheer. I did a fake half smile then turned and sat on the couch behind me. Aaron saw my face and immediately his smile turned into a frown. “Oh sorry Van…I didn’t mean to-““No Aaron its fine.” I interrupted. As the party went on Megan announced a surprise Halloween Contest, and everyone had to join in. so as everyone lined up Megan sat on the couch and called each person up, and some people really got into it and acted out a little thing there costume did. Aaron was up next and as he went up, I never noticed his costume till now. He wore black jeans, and I black dress top, his hair was the same dark brown and his eyes likewise. His clear tan skin was painted a tint of black-y-green and he had a fake knife stuck into his back with fake blood coming out. As he walked out onto the stage or carpet, he walked normally then stood there still, smiling, and then out of no wear he breaks out into a scream and falls forward onto floor, I didn’t notice the knife at first so when I saw it in his back I freaked out and screamed: “Noooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” and as I ran to him almost crying I hear the people behind me laughing. And as I see Aaron turn to look at me surprise in his eyes, he grabs me in his arms and carries me out into Megan’s bedroom. I, still crying, place me onto her bed. “Hey are you ok? I’m sorry I scared you.” I look into his eyes, and then slap him across the face. “What the heck was that Aaron!!? You made me look like a fool!!” and I broke out into tiers again, just as Megan walks into the room. I’m sill cuddled in Aaron’s arms when she looks at me screaming: “Oh my gosh! Vanessa are you ok??!!” Megan asked. “Yeah,” Aaron answers for me. “She was just a little startled, that’s all.” “Oh…ok if that’s all, I’ll let u guys calm down.” As she left the room I put my head on his shoulder still crying a little. Then out of nowhere he bursts out into a little laugh then stops automatically. “What’s so funny about what just happened?” I ask him obviously annoyed. “It’s nothing…” then he bursts out laughing again, this time he doesn’t stop till I slap him. “Aaron!!” I yell at him. Then he goes silent, so I ask again, “So what was so funny?” “It’s just your reaction, it’s like you actually thought I got stabbed in the back” he says still laughing a little. “Well I did.” I admit. “You did?” he asks obviously confused. “Yeah I did. I care about you Aaron, you’re like family, and I don’t have much family anyway…” “What do you mean by that? Where’s your family?” He asks confused again. I take a deep breath and tell him about everything, about me being an orphan, about my parents being missing and about me having no family. When I finish he just looks at me dumbfounded, so I poke him in the eye. “Oww! What was that for?” he asks. “Well you were staring at me and not talking. So I poked you in the eye for annoying me.” I explain. He just rolls his eyes at that. “Want to get back down to the party?” he asks. “Sure,” I say “I’ll meet you down there.” “Ok” he said, and he walked out of the room. Once he leaves I go to the mirror and fix my make up that had run, and in the corner of my eye, in the back of the room behind me, I see the white lady looking at me. I scream as loud as I can and like I did as a child beg it to leave me alone. And before I knew it the ghost walks toward me, and touches me on my forehead, and I black out. When I wake up I’m in a dark room. There’s no furniture, no light just the glowing silhouette of the harvest moon. A small yelp from the other side of the room startles me, as I move toward it I can see the shadow of a person, no ,two people, standing in the corner. And the people sitting in the corner I recognize immediately. “Mom? Dad?” I ask.
