You Were a Poet

I remember it vividly,
It was months ago that first night
The first time that we called
That night I'd been upset, crazy even
And you were there, quietly but there
I opened up the blank pages that were me
And you started writing, drafting your poem
Soothing me with pretty words of the stars
You'd have said anything to save my mind
From the demons of the past, clutched on my back
You spun words  into gold, straight out of thin air
A poem you'd work on for months on end
That night you claimed and adamantly told me
That you'd always be around, never leave my side
I've read between all of your beautiful lines
The lines and work of a poet who knew what he was doing.
