I woke the next morning, feeling refreshed. I hopped out of bed and saw that my robes and ties had been altered during the night. My robes now had yellow accents and my ties had yellow and black stripes. Wonder who did that. I grabbed some clean clothes and got changed. Putting on my bag, I walked out into the common room. Sunlight was streaming into the room through some windows I hadn't noticed last night. One had a latch. I ran back to my dorm and grabbed Taka. I opened the window and let her out onto the grass.

"Do you think you can find the Owlery?"

She affectionately nibbled my finger and flew off. I'll take that as a yes. Shutting and latching the window, I exited the common room. Once in the hallway, I struggled to remember which way I was supposed to go. How does anyone find anything in this castle? I picked a direction and started walking. Anytime I reached an intersection I picked whichever option felt right. Eventually, I smelled food and was able to follow that until I reached a group of students headed to the Great Hall.

I sat down at the Hufflepuff table and loaded up my plate. I grabbed my schedule out of my bag and took a look at it. My first class was Potions with Professor Snape. I'd never been amazing at potions but I did alright. Hopefully, things wouldn't be too bad. I shoved my schedule back into my bag and started on my breakfast. The hall was full of chatter as people talked with their friends. Maybe I have time for some reading. As I turned to grab my book, something caught my eye. Draco. He was staring at me again. I stared back for a moment, trying to decide what to do. Not coming up with anything worthwhile, I sighed and grabbed my book so I could read while I ate. I'd finished The Little Prince on the train so I was starting a new book now. Howl's Moving Castle. I'd read it a few times before and it was one of my favorites. Maybe it would help me block out Draco and wondering whether he was still staring.

It took a bit of wandering around in the dungeons, which I didn't like much, but I found the classroom in the end. I was surprised that I'd been able to find the classroom on time. I looked around at the other students and saw there was an open seat by Hermione.

"Mind if I join you?" I asked.

"No, not at all."

I sat down beside her and set my bag down. Moments later, Draco swaggered into the room with two beefy boys behind him, who didn't look like they had much going on upstairs. As he passed, he tripped on the strap of my bag, ripping it and causing my supplies to spill out. I hopped out and started gathering it all up and I could've sworn that I heard Draco mutter "sorry" as he stood. The damage to my bag was easy to fix. I'd gotten lots of practice in the last two years fixing and cleaning my different belongings that people had trashed to mess with me.

"Reparo," I said, waving my wand at the rip.

It sealed up and I dumped my stuff back into my bag. Glancing at Draco. He'd been oddly silent during the encounter. I'd expected that he would've snapped at me for having my bag in the way or something after what I'd seen of him with others. Just then, Professor Snape walked in. He had greasy black hair and a hooked nose. He surveyed the room with distaste. He already seemed to hate this class.

"I will be assigning you partners this year. You will keep this partner for the duration of the school year. End of discussion."

"Granger and Brown."

Hermione shot me an apologetic look as she went to join the other girl.

"Potter and Longbottom. Weasley and Finnegan. Thomas and Patil. Malfoy and Web."
