Bakugo had righted his position on his bed, lying back against his pillows, seeming bored. I continue to scroll through Amazon and various shopping apps, looking for ideas to decorate my side of the room. I feel more drawn to the grunge style, darker with pops of reds and blues. I find some posters that look kinda cool, but I have no clue where they're from.
"Hey, Bakugo?" He raises an eyebrow in response. "I like these posters, but have no idea what they represent. Pierce the Veil? Black Veil Brides? Bad Omens?" Bakugo suddenly bursts out laughing, prompting a look of confusion from me. He opens something on his phone and it starts playing some music. It's much different from what Mother and Father would have allowed. It's got a heavy bass, harsh guitar, and rough, growling vocals. As I let the lyrics process, I realize that they MEAN something. The song he's playing now is called "In The End" by Black Veil Brides. "I like it."
"You do?" He looks surprised, maybe even completely shocked.
"Yeah. There's raw emotion to it, feeling. It's not something I'm accustomed to within music, but I really like it!" I smile at the boy across from me, and he grins. Not his normal sadistic, mean grin, instead it's more of a beam. He's genuinely happy that I've taken interest in his type of music.
After a couple hours of listening to music and 'jamming out', as Bakugo called it, carefully on my end of course, we realize that it's after midnight, and we need to go to bed.
"Thank you for that, Bakugo. You've defenitely made me feel much better." I smile softly, not daring to look at him.
"I'm just glad I have someone not-so-annoying to share my music with." He chuckles. Usually his tone would be gruff, riddled with curses here and there, instead it's soft, calm. There's not even a hint of a rasp, and for the first time I realize, he puts on a mask for the public. He's a soft spoken, fun loving, music loving, smiling, giggling goof ball. "Night, Iida." I glance up at him, he's smiling.
"Night, Bakugo." I settle a little further down into my bed, not really being able to turn to either side. Bakugo promptly flops onto his stomach, pulling the blanket tight around his shoulders. I shake my head lightly before dozing off into the most peaceful sleep I've had in years.
Bakugo P.O.V
There's a knock at the door, and voices. I get up, carefully looking through the peephole without letting them know I'm there. It's just Aizawa and Mic. I glance at the clock in the kitchenette and it's after 8am already. I mean, Iida and I did stay up pretty late. I open the door for our teachers.
"Keep your voices down, Iida's still sleeping, and soundly I might add." I whisper to the two Pros. They nod in response.
"How does he seem?" I know what Aizawa means. He's asking about his mental state.
"I think he's still in shock. I don't think he really realizes the extent of what happened yet. He's had to have been going through this for years, it's going to be a lot of ups and downs, a lot of healing and breaking again. He's going to have his reality of 'normal' shattered over and over, for now, I'm just keeping him calm." I hear beeping behind me and turn to Iida's I.V pump. It's not an alarm I've ever seen before, so I call Recovery Girl.
"Yes, Bakugo? Is everything alright, dear?" The elderly woman picks up on the second ring.
"Hey, his I.V pump has a weird code, I've never seen it before."
"What's the code?"
"100. I've never seen it just display a number before." I look at it, puzzled.
"Oh, no, that's no good. Go ahead and unhook him from it, we should do a hydration trial today anyway. The pump's memory has failed. I'll have to grab him a new one and take that one down to Power Loader to get fixed."
"Oooooh." I let out the exaggerated noise, forgetting my teachers are there. I quickly unhook Iida from his pump, saying goodbye to Recovery Girl. I stop the flow manually so it doesn't make a mess. Iida stirs next to me, looking confused.
"Is everything alright?" He sits up slightly, supporting himself on his good arm.
"Yeah, damn pump freaked out. We're going to trial today without I.V fluids and see how you hold up. Recovery Girl needs to take this one to get fixed, luckily she's got another one if you're not able to hold up without the fluids." He nods in understanding. "I'm going to leave this line in," I gently wiggle the line connected to his arm, "just in case we need to quickly hook you up." He nods again, seeming to have suddenly lost the ability to speak. I quirk my eyebrow at him, and he just shakes his head, telling me he doesn't want to talk about it right now, or maybe that there's nothing wrong, I'm not sure yet.
After an hour or so of scrolling mindlessly on my phone, Iida's feed pump alarms out, letting me know that his feed has run it's course. I stand up and stretch, walking over to the storage drawers that hold all of Iida's medical supplies.
"Your feed has run it's course, do you want to learn how to set it up? Minus the pump of course." He gives me a bit of a bewildered look, but nods. I grab a bottle of his formula, and a new pump bag, along with his medications that I had drawn up yesterday just to make this easier, and the bottle of water with the 10ml syringe. "So, first what I'll do is clamp this, "I show him the clamp on his tube, "so that nothing left in the line goes leaking out. Once that's clamped down, I open this cover, and remove the tubing from the housing, and I can just throw the used bag away. Sometimes we'll reuse them for the same patient, but we don't know what your immune system is like, and can't risk you getting sick right now." He nods in understanding, watching me intently. "This," I hold up a syringe labled 'potassium', "is your potassium supplement, it's for your heart, to try and at least lessen the severity of your Pots. This," I hold up the syringe labled 'vitamin', "is your daily multivitamin. You're really malnourished, so we need to balance out your vitamins and minerals. This, "I hold up a syringe labeled 'metoprolol', "is your heart medication. It's called Metoprolol, and it's a medication called a beta blocker. It helps your body maintain heart rate and blood pressure, so hopefully no fainting episodes." He nods watching how I work. "We always do the medication first, then your feed, otherwise it would just be difficult." I chuckle to myself, and he smiles. I show him how to scrub the syringes with the alcohol pad, as well as his adapter to the tube, and show him how to slowly push the medications. "You can't push the medications too fast, or run the feed too fast, otherwise it could make you really sick." He nods in understanding. I grab the 10ml syringe and fill it with the bottled water. "This is called a flush, it just flushes out your line to make sure it's ready for your feed. I grab his bag and gently open it, making sure no air can hide in the bottom. I show him how to fill it with his formula, and hook it up to the pump. "I'll show you how to actually run the machine when you're a little stronger, it's kind of a pain in the ass." He chuckles at my remark, finally I hear sound from him.
"Thank you, Bakugo." I look up at him from my crouched position by his pump.
"What for?"
"Taking care of me. You didn't have to do that, I could have just been sent to the hospital to recover." He looks away, blushing at the remark.
"I wanted to. You're my class rep, and well, I'd even say you're my friend." His gaze snaps to me, his mouth slightly agape at the remark. "Plus, some docs suck, and I wouldn't want you getting shitty care." I shrug, making him chuckle. I like that sound, it's nice. I'd like to make him laugh some more.
