Slowly Cassy’s mind drifted towards consciousness, breaking through the webs that kept it confined until it surfaced and broke into wakefulness.  Alex heard the soft movements she was making, and watched in fascination as she woke, curling in on herself and then stretching out, almost falling off of the wide seat.  She snapped her eyes open, instantly alert and shot him an accusing glance.

“Would you like something to eat?”  He asked before she could say anything insulting or degrading.

“Chinese?”

“Nope,” he chuckled.  “Your luck is out.  I do not think Chinese food is served at truck stops.”

“Maybe next time you can stop at a Chinese truck stop?”

“I’ll try my best.”  Alex replied, smiling at her.  He could see she still wasn’t awake properly and it made her appear slightly vulnerable.  And soft, almost kittenish – if such a word even existed.

“So, what would you like?”  He repeated, trying hard not to imagine what it would be like; waking up with her in his arms.

“Sweet and sour pork, extra sauce extra pork.  Hold the rice.”  Cassy shivered lightly as a stiff breeze swept through the cab, and Alex cranked the window up without even realizing that he had acted instinctively at his mate’s discomfort.

Cassy smiled her thanks at him, straightening up she peered into the diner.  “Seems clean enough.  If their meat smells fresh, you can get me a steak burger.  Rare please, with extra pickles.”

“So, you are a savory girl?”

“What!  What do you mean with that?”

“Well, you like sweet and sour, extra pickles.  That would categorize you as a savory type girl.”

“Don’t be too hasty in your evaluation.  My sweet tooth kicks in when I am on the go.”  Glancing around outside she gathered her phone and bag.  “Have you spotted the ladies yet by any chance?”

“Seems to be inside, shall we?”

‘Hmm, might as well.”

They walked in and immediately, the men waiting for their orders turned and threw them a glance, then looked Cassy up and down, and then up and down again.  By then Cassy had spotted the sign for the restroom, she nodded towards it and Alex put his hand on her back in confirmation.

“Want fries with your burger?”

“Yes please.”

Alex stepped up to the counter and noticed the men; they were all watching Cassy walk off.  He turned to see what they were staring at, and understood their fascination.  He had noticed before that she walked with such an innocent confidence, her hips swaying in the most enticing way, almost hypnotizing.

“I wouldn’t mind those legs wrapped around me.”

Alex froze.  Both his animal and human instincts poised on the edge of rational thinking.  When his mind cleared a few seconds later he found himself up against the counter, the red face of the imbecile who had spoken indicating a lack of oxygen, caused by Alex’s hand clasped firmly about his neck.  The bystander’s attempts to tear the two off them apart were nothing more than the irritating actions of mosquitoes.  No human could hope to match the strength of a werewolf.

“When I let you go, you are going to leave, if you are still waiting for your food, you can collect it after we have left.”  He managed to speak the words through his clenched teeth.  “And do no speak of her again, do not even think of her again, or I will rip you apart.”
