Chapter 1:The top of the class

Setting:At the classroom of class S-6

"It's finally the end of the semester! "
Said Seishin,one of Yuan's classmates. "But you do know that the awarding ceremony is coming up right? What if your rank goes down because of your carelessness?"Coming from a grumpy looking guy with an exhausted posture. It's as if he stayed up all night doing something." Don't be so mean Yuan, just because you've been the top of this class since the first day doesn't mean you get to pick on others. "Said Kokoro who is also one of his classmates." I'm just stating facts Miss Yuzuki."The guy answered. "Please don't say my name with that disgusting mouth of yours."Kokoro is enraged."Oh I'm sorry, did I offend the little princess?" Yuan jokingly said. "Someone stop me before I punch someone." The girl mumbled. "Still as arrogant as ever, aren't we Mr. Li?" Someone said."Could say the same about you, Shikichi Yurika."

Silence filled the room as the two faced each other. Everyone was scared of what's about to go down.
As the two students gave each other death glares. "Get ready to be humiliated in front of everyone tomorrow"Said Yurika."Don't get too cocky, Miss Shikichi." Yuan said with a smirk."I think you're just scared that you'll be outsmarted by a girl."

"Me,scared? Hah! what a joke." Yuan replied with utter arrogance."Wait, guys calm down first, the teacher is coming."Seishin reasoned with them, in order to settle the situation.As the classroom door opens and a teacher comes in. The class hurried back to their seats in preparation for their first period.

*Time skip to lunchtime*
Yurika was sitting in the cafeteria with her friends. They were gossiping about Yuan more often than usual.
"I heard that Yuan still watches cartoons in his free time."One of the girls said.
"Wait really? Maybe that's why he's nothing compared to Yurika when it comes to linguistics." The girls burst out laughing after hearing those words.
"Last thing I heard was that I aced all major subjects, including linguistics." Yuan walked up to their table with an arrogant tone.
"Why don't you let us have our own conversation?" Yurika said rudely. "You don't own this table Miss Shikichi." Yuan replied."Neither is our attention."Yurika looked like a boiling volcano ready to erupt. "Calm down girl, you might make scene and besides he's not worth our time."Her friend said.
"She's right Yurika, why don't you walk to another table instead of fighting battles you know you can't win."Yuan said, filled with pride. "This isn't over." Yurika muttered, walking away and accepting defeat, for now.

*Time skip*
Class finally ended and everyone was so eager to get home. But suddenly, rain started pouring. Yurika was standing in front of the exit without an umbrella because she forgot to bring one. Yuan walked out of the exit and saw the girl drenched in rain water. For some reason something was making him walk over to her and offer to share his umbrella. He was so confused in what was happening to him because it was like something is pulling him towards her. Then he finally spoke.
"Umm, hey do you wanna share with me? You can get sick if you stay in the rain for too long."He was replied with a questioning stare. But the girl decided to take the umbrella and they walked home together standing close to each other under a rusty old umbrella.

The day of the awarding ceremony has finally came. And everyone was excited yet nervous to find out who is the top of the class this semester. Once all the parents had arrived, the ceremony finally begun.
"Auntie! Over here!" Yuan yelled to get the attention of Yurika's mother. Their families had been friends for a while but you can't say the same about their descendants. Suddenly someone tapped the mic located on the middle of the stage.

"Helloo Class S-6!! Are you ready to for this semester's revelation?"
Their teacher yelled excitedly.
"Yes!!" The crowd roared.
"Then I shall not keep you waiting." The teacher said while unwrapping their report cards."Who do you guys think will be the top of the class this time?" She asked.
"Yuan/Yurika!" A mixture of answers followed.
"It sure was an intense battle between those two brilliant minds. Which makes it difficult for me to decide who won. But before that we should first give applause to the students who made it in the top 20!" A bored sigh was made by everyone when she said those words. The teacher started announcing the top 20 and the more she gets closer to the top, the more thrilled the students get. The time came when there's only five spots left. And finally, the moment of truth came."And now, for the moment you've all been waiting for.Our 1st and 2nd placer are...Li Yuan and Shikichi Yurika with an average of 94.5 and 93.2!"As the teacher said those words, Yurika's world came crahing down. There was no way that she'd let Yuan be the best. But she failed to defeat him, again. She was left stunned with nothing to say as everyone started clapping for Yuan. She couldn't accept the truth that she'll always be second best. And with that, she ran out of the stage after receiving her medal with tears in her eyes, not because of joy but the feeling of defeat.
