The Spring Fling was Saturday. Two days away. So today is dress shopping day with Winter. After school, her and I scoured the dress shops. We're on our third store.
Winter comes out of one of the dressing rooms in a peach, knee-length dress with ruffles and an X-strap in the back. She looks stunning. As always. My best friends are always better looking than me. It's not that I think I'm ugly, in fact I'm happy with how I look, aside from my smile. I have to keep my braces on for another six months. Amazin'!"Winter, you look amazing!" I tell her.
"Really?" she asks.
"Really."
"Don't you go quoting the Fault in our Stars if you haven't even read it yet!" she teasingly scolds.
"How do you know I was quoting that? You have no proof. It's not even the correct words," I grin. She shakes her head and lets out a sigh. Then she grabs one of the dresses off my arm and sternly tells me to try it on.
Reluctantly, I set the other dresses on my arm- various ones she and I wanted to/did try on- and shut the dressing room door. I shimmied into the dress. It was a light turquoise, which I hoped would compliment my eyes. It had, instead of traditional straps, two strands that tied at my neck, like a bikini. It was ruffled at the bottom, stopped a little above my knees, and tightened around my sides, accentuating the only curves I had.
If I wore a really padded, strapless bra, then my boobs would look like a B-cup!!¡! Cool!!¡! It's also on sale. Huge bonus. Yay.
And it did compliment my eyes, thank goodness. I hope Zaid likes it. I'll buy a matching tie for him while I'm here. It'll help even out the fact that he bought both of our tickets.
I grab the tie that matches my dress, and make my way over to the counter with Winter. The lady there is probably a college student, and looks like she has lost the will to live. Charming. All these dress places seem to have these kinds of cashiers. I smile at her, and she blinks, keeping her face emotionless."Hi, I'd like to buy this dress and tie," I smile.
"Neat," the girl deadpans.
"Uhm, can I?" I ask.
"I bet if you put your mind to it you could." Still emotionless. Is she joking? What the heck?! It feels like elementary school all over again. 'I don't know, can you go to the bathroom' like yes, b****, I can go to the bathroom, and I will piss in your mouth if you don't let me go right now.
"May I buy these items, please?" I ask again, putting on my sweetest fake smile. I'm done with her already, but I really like this dress.
"Put them up on the counter." Goodness, what is wrong with this woman? I comply, and get out my card. "We only take credit cards, no debit cards." Oh my- I take a deep breath, but I'm internally screaming. I fish out my mom's credit card, which I took in case this happened. I'm pretty sure she won't need it for a while. I'll pay it back anyways... probably...
As she's scanning the items I look at Winter, who's more appalled than I am."That'll be $389.16," she mumbles. I choke after she says the price.
"Are you sure?! It can't be that much! The dress is on sale!" I stutter. Even without the sale it couldn't be that much!
"I know."
"Well can you calculate the sale price in, please?" I ask politely, completely fed up with her BS.
"That's a lot of work." Is she freaking kidding?!
"Well do it anyways. I'm the customer and I don't deserve to be treated like this. May I speak to your manager?" Done. I'm done with this hoe. She perks right up after that, and calculates in the sale price.
"That'll be $228.37, my bad, darling," she smiles. I grab the credit card. She folds the dress and tie into a bag and hands it to me.
"Have a nice day sweetie," she smiles. This b****. I swear. Winter gets her things quickly, and we hustle out of there.
Once outside, Winter lets out a few cuss words, very unusual for her. In PG, she said what a mean, old hag the lady was, and how she should go, uhm, do something to herself with a rotten cactus... I guess I can't really translate that into PG. Read between the lines, folks. Infer.•🌊•
At school the next day, the school was abuzz with chatter about the dance. Pretty much everyone had a date. And if they didn't, it's because they couldn't go because of some other activity. Our school has almost even amounts of boys and girls, and some people bring dates from other schools.
Winter's date is a kid named Benjamin Summers. Ironic. Actually really funny. I laugh a bit every time I see them together. Ben is a tall lean kid on the basketball team. He's really smart, and in all the higher classes. His subject is science, and Winter's is math. He's got curly, brown hair, freckles, and a small nose and chin. He's not bad looking, but Winter thinks he's absolutely adorable. She says he may look weak, but is really strong. Not sure how she knows that...•🌊•
After fourth period, as I put my textbooks in my locker for lunch, someone leans up against the locker next to me.
"Hey sweet thang, you knew here?" he asks.
"Maybe, maybe not. Why do you want to know?" I ask.
"Because I think you're really hot, and I wanna date you." He leans in and kisses me on my forehead.
"Zaid, you're a dingbat, ya know that?" I tell him. He moves his lips down to mine, and kisses me gently. His settles his hands on my hips, and I drape my arms around his neck. I twirl my finger around in his hair, hoping he takes it in a flirty way. I have no experience with this.
"Uhm ma'am, I'm going to have to ask you to move yo lil booty somewhere else, preferably a broom closet so I won't have to continue gagging. Also I need to dispose of my French book." I release Zaid and turn to find Winter standing with one hand on her cocked hip, looking at me with a fake stern glare and a mischievous glint in her eye.
"Oh sorry, I assumed it was occupied by you and Ben," I tease back.
"Touché, my dear, touché." We laugh, and I move aside to let her get her book.
"I heard there was a broom closet open somewhere. If the price is cheap we can rent it out for lunch," Zaid grins at me. I smack him playfully.
"Sorry babe, a girl's gotta eat." I grin at him, kiss him for a second, hoping I was being alluring, and that I left him wanting more. I have no idea how to do that, but I think it worked. He grabbed the belt loop of my jeans as I walked away, and spun me into one last kiss. I pulled away right as he's getting into it. I am actually hungry. I give him a playful grin over my shoulder as I walk to the lunch table with Winter.
Once he's out of earshot, I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding, my face hot."You little tramp!" Winter giggles as she nudges me. "I didn't know it was that serious! Why didn't you tell me?"
"Honestly, I didn't know it was that serious either. But let's talk about Ben, shall we?" I grin mischievously at her. She blushes.
"What is there to talk about?" She feigns innocence.
"Let's start with, hmm," I tap my chin, mimicking thought. "How do you know he's so strong?" She blushes even more. I let out a cackle, on accident, then make sure Zaid didn't hear. He wasn't around, thank goodness.
"Hmm? How do you know he's strong?" I ask and nudge her.
"Great question, anybody else?" She shades her eyes with a hand and 'searches' for another 'student with a question'. "Oh, would ya look at that, we've reached the cafeteria. Too bad I can't answer your question now!" She fakes a sigh and hurries over to our table. She sits down next to Ben, now a regular at our table, and I sit down next to Matt. I pull out my lunch and start on my turkey sandwich.
After a few bites, Zaid plops down next to me. Someone taps my opposite shoulder, and I look over. By the time I realize it was Zaid, he's already taken a bite of my sandwich. He pulled a Matt."Hey!" I smack him on the arm as he leans back. "Are you satisfied with yourself, dingbat?" I ask. He nods. I sigh and shake my head at him. Boys.
