The next day
I was putting some books back on the shelves near the back of the library when I heard footsteps stop on the row in front of me. I peeked through some openings between books to see it was Shay. I shook my head and watched him pick up the Hobbit. I went back to putting up books after that and he heard it then he walked to the end of that row then around the corner before looking to see me. I quickly put up some more books then pushed the cart of books further down the row and away from Shay.
“Marie, wait. I overstepped last night.” He said following me.
I stopped then turned to face him.
I signed no I think you meant every word you said.
He let a big sigh as he stopped near me.
“You are right I don’t know you so I shouldn’t have called you stuck up.” He said.
“But I can tell you aren’t happy. I think Eric and them controls what you do too much.” He said.
I signed don’t try to make comments on my life when you know nothing.
“I know that Eric made you mad last night because after he said whatever he said to you, you hightailed it out of the diner.” He said.
“And I know for a fact you gave him a pity kiss; you even said it in your own words.” He said.
I signed I did it to save your butt you jerk.
He shook his head when I called him a jerk.
“And I don’t need protection.” He said taking a step forward.
I signed so you keep saying and apparently you don’t like it when someone helps you.
“Not when that helps comes from you kissing a guy you hate. I can take him Angel.” He said taking another step forward.
I signed maybe I don’t want you both to get suspended and can you even afford to get suspended?
“It wouldn’t be anything new.” He said taking another step forward.
“Tell me did you want to follow me last night when I disappeared behind the stands?” He asked taking the final step forward and closing the distance between us by stopping really close to me.
I signed you and me; it can’t happen.
“Why to afraid to live dangerously for once in your life?” He asked.
I rolled my eyes at him.
I signed do you really want to read the Hobbit?
He looked at the book in his left hand then back at me.
“I’ve actually read it before and just feel like reading it again.” He said.
I gave him a shocked look and he smiled.
“There’s a lot we don’t know about each other Angel and I meant what I said when I said I want to change that and get to know you.” He said before leaning down and bringing his face very close to mine.
“Have you ever kissed anyone besides Eric?” He asked.
I shook my head and he nodded his head. He brushed his lips against mine while looking me straight in the eyes. He kissed me after that and it didn’t take that long before I kissed him back. I felt him smile as we continued to kiss. After a little bit, he broke the kiss.
“That was definitely not a pity kiss.” He said smiling at me.
I turned around after that and walked away because I knew I had crossed a line I shouldn’t have. I let him kiss me and now I know that his kisses are so different than Eric’s kisses and that I liked when he kissed me more than any other time that Eric and I have kissed. I wasn’t lying though when I said a relationship between us could never happen because I knew Tucker and them would never allow it to happen. I also knew now that he smelled like a citrusy and woodsy cologne mixed with the smell of cigarettes plus that his lips tasted minty.
