"The story is about love." And that it is. This story is an AU of Baz Luhrmanns' Moulin Rouge, 2001. This story will be canon to the original plot up until chapter two. By chapter three, the story starts to slowly unravel into its own, while also following the original plot and themes. I suggest you watch the movie before reading this fan fiction, just so you have an idea of what happens. And no, there will be no major spoilers in the movie, because as I said, this story will take its own twists and turns.
This story will also contain many mature themes. To list vaguely, there will be racism, anti-Semitism, abuse, consumption of alcohol, homophobia, and assault of all kinds. What I write into my chapters to portray these themes do not reflect on my character. These themes simply exist because of the time period, the social politics of the world as it was in 1899-1900, and bluntly trying to create more tension between the characters.
Politely, I will simply not deal with anyone freaking out and saying things such as: "[insert character] would never act like that]". Because to that I will say: It isn't your story and don't read it if you don't wanna see some of you favorite characters be bad people.
However, I will also include warnings in the beginning of chapters as they progress.
Mind you, in absolutely no way is this story a slow burn. It simply doesn't fit my aesthetic I'm pitching for, or the story I'm trying to tell.
