What...what is pain?
What is true pain?
What is love?
What is undying loyalty?
What is the unyielding support you give, no questions asked?Why...why must you hurt?
Why must your beautiful light be diminished?
Why has this been what's chosen for you?
Why didn't I get to say goodbye?Where...where did you go?
Where did I continue on?
Where did you wish to be homed for eternity?When...when you...died...were you at peace?
When you died, did their cries haunt you?Who...who are you?
That last question's easy, of course.
You are Maddie.
A faithful companion who's time came to an end before I ever got to say goodbye.
So joyous, so willing to be your comforter, so playful.
Eight years of my life I've known you.
I was in the car, when we brought you and your brother home, in a laundry basket, no less!
Hundreds of miles away I might be, but regardless I still mourn.
Summer, autumn, winter, spring.
It won't be the same without you greeting me at the door, but please, find your peace.
Run through fields of wildflowers Maddie, and be free.
