your affliction

My sweet beloved
I miss you dearly
For when we meet again
I know I'll be dreaming

Fate has not been kind
For that I am sorry
And with thoughts of you in mind
I write each story

You didn't want me; I know
I'll accept that at least
But the days before were so
Unforgiving to feast

I tried to fit words of a lifetime
Into two short years
So that by nighttime
I'd feel satisfied
if never once more

Your smile so bright
Your eyes so light
The way that you laugh;
While my head's still low

The look on your face
When you remember I'm near
By your own affliction
Like you knew that in time; you'd be gone

Forever in despair
That we could not be
In vows or promises
In love or loyalty

In one universe
I'll be better
But for now until then
I'll appreciate your gift
