I stood on the sidewalk looking both ways and not a single person could be seen. Where is everyone?
"Young-Soo!! Over here" yelled a familiar voice. I turned around to see my aunt walking towards me. I ran up to her and gave her a big hug. "Hi aunt Su-Jin" I said with a huge smile across my face. "Don't try to act all sweet with me. Your mother told me what happened and I'm not pleased with you either." I looked away and apologized. "No use apologizing. It won't turn back the clock. Follow me and you'll get right to work." She was right, I couldn't turn back time. The only thing time can do is move forward.
I followed her up the block till we reached a small grocery store. I placed my bags behind the counter for now and put on an apron. "All right go to the back and stack the cans" she ordered. I walked to the back where the soup cans were waiting for me. Stacking them was easy till you get to the very top....then it's a pain in the ass. I mean I'm a pretty tall guy but I stacked them to the point were I couldn't reach anymore. I started to climb the cans so I can fit the rest on top. Bad idea. All the cans came crashing down. I quickly try to pick them up before my aunt came but she was quick. "You can't even stack cans correctly!? No wonder they kicked you out..." She let out a small sigh. "Just re-stack them and come meet at the register" she disappeared after that. I re-stacked them the same way but left the ones I couldn't reach on the floor. I'll just go take a little break. I walked to the register more irritated than I was when I arrived. I sat down on the floor and closed my eyes. "Young-Soo!! Get up! The floor is filthy and you should be back there cleaning up the mess you made!" Ahhh shit. This women is getting on my nerves. I got up and stood there for a good minute. My eyes caught the costumer that was at the register. She looked familiar...no it can't be. Her cheeks started turning red and I gave her a smug look and left. I paid the other employee to do the rest of the stacking for me. I quickly left without being seen.
I walked around for a good 5 hours or so. I look up at the sky. It's dark I should head back, my aunt is probably worried about me. I started walking down the block still looking up at the sky. The stars are really bright tonight. As I turned the corner someone crashed into me.
"I'm sorry. I didn't see you turning the corner" I said extending my hand. Oh. It's the girl from earlier except shes crying now.
"Its fine" she said grabbing my hand to pull herself back up. I reach into my pocket and hand her a tissue. She takes it and wipes her face, "Thanks." "It's no problem" I said smiling. I looked around not knowing what to say next.
"You seem upset. Let me buy you something sweet." I'm in no rush to go back home. I grabbed her hand and we started walking up the block to a cafe near by.
The cafe was small and quiet on the inside. There were only two other people in the cafe. We sat down, facing each other. I couldn't help but stare at her, she looks so familiar....ahhh I remember her now...wow it's been a long time since I've seen her. By the look on her face she doesn't remember me at all. I'm a complete stranger to her at the moment. She looked back at me with tears filling her eyes. She quickly wiped them away, while doing so I got up and started walking towards the counter. "Hi, what can I get you" the waiter said with a huge smile on his face. "Two hot chocolates please."
I waited a few minutes for the drinks to come. When they did I payed for them and walked back to our table. "Here you go" I said placing the drink in front of her. She sniffled, "Thank you." She picked it up and took a sip. I laughed, there was whipped cream on her lip. She looked so cute. "What?" She said, all teary eyed. "You got a little something right here" without thinking I leaned in a placed my lips on top of hers. They were warm and soft. I pulled away, grinning "Now there's no more whipped cream on your lip." I don't know what got into me. Why am I so happy? I can't stop smiling
"So" She said, "I heard you were living with Su-Jin...."
"Yea. Got kicked out of my school for fighting, so my mom sent me to live with my aunt."
"Why'd you get kicked out?"
"Hmmmm....I don't think its the right time to tell you" I replied. The memory of the fight is coming to me. The smile on my face slowly disappears. My eyes turn to Min-Ji, her head was hanging low and she was talking to herself. She must feel bad for asking. "hey" I said patting her head and smiling "Its nothing to worry about." A few minutes later I stood up and grabbed her hand, "Let's get you back home."We walked shoulder to shoulder back down the block. I kept glancing at her. I can't believe we finally get to see each other again. She looks beautiful under the moonlight. I can't help but blush each time she looks at me. Soon we got to the gate of her apartment building. She let out a deep sigh, "Smile" I said.
"Young-Soo..." My eyes widened in shock. Does she remember me? I don't remember telling her my name. What if she..."Thank you" she said. Before I could respond she walked into the building.
I stood there for a while, it felt like hours went by. I turned around and headed back home. I came in and took my shoes off. The memories of her kept filling my head. Even as I unpacked and got ready for bed she was on my mind. Maybe staying here for awhile won't be so bad after all.
