Oh great, another day at this stupid school. Wonder what's new today.
"Hey, Taylor!"
I turn, "Al! What's up man?" We do our signature fist bump.
"Why so glum?" My best friend settled into step with me.
"I'm not glum, this is my face you're looking at. Thank you very much."
"Oh, someone's a little touchy today and I think I know why."
"You don't have to rub it in my face."
"I can understand what you're going through right now bud. I mean, it's not everyday your childhood crush finally gets together with someone only for it to be our ex-best friend."
I looked at them in the hallway. The mere sight makes my heart sink where he ever so holds her hand and she looks at him with such admiration. Ugh it just makes me sick.
A month before this atrocity took place before my eyes, I had been planning to ask Cass out. You see me, Al, Cass, and him were all best friends ever since we were kids.
I guess I should tell you his name since he's going to be in this book. Drew and Cass were the only ones who didn't know that I liked Cass. Al was the only one I could count on. But that day in school, I had been too late even though it may have been obvious on our walk home the day before.
The day before, we were walking home and we happened to be by the river that we all would have to cross on a bridge to get to where our homes were. Cass had stopped by the river and asked that we go ahead without her. I was about to offer and stay with her but Drew insisted that me and Al go since it was sunset.
The next day, when it came to walking to school they started acting weird. When Al had the courage to ask Drew came out with it and said they starting dating yesterday. I was crushed ever since that day then we drifted apart after that. Sure, there's small talk here and there but we could never go back to the way things were.
Oh before the real story actually starts, if you thought Al was a guy you're dead wrong. I thought that too when I was younger but I learned that the hard way. She punched me in the face. Never again. She still gives me the creeps.
"Hmm? You said something Taylor?"
Oops. Did she hear me? "No, nothing at all!"
"Really? I could have sworn I heard something."
She bought that???
Taylor better not push his luck, mumbling like that.
And with that, me and Al walked to class.
