"232.98"

Reagan's eyes nearly fell out. She had just swiped her card when the cashier told her the total cost.

"Brett.. What the hell?!" Reagan whispered as he was packing the stuff.

They had gone to a pet store to pick some supplies up for Raine. Laiki had come along, with a bunch of new toys that Brett spoiled her with. With that there was a shopping cart full of cat toys, food, a litter box and a giant cat towel. Although the whole shopping trip was more Brett grabbing whatever he could as Reagan was distracted with a phone call

"Sorry Reagan." Brett said as he scratched his neck. "Everything looked really cool and I couldn't help it. You left me alone. But Raine is a good cat! He does deserve the best!"

"Yeah, totally the best when we get get kicked out of our house because I can't pay the bills" Reagan replies bitterly as they walk to her car.

"There's always my place. I don't mind you hanging around."

"I'll think about that."

They manage to fit everything into Reagan's trunk. Laika laid in the back, chewing on a bone. They drove home in silence beside the pop music playing on the radio.

"So.. what about vet stuff? Like getting vaccines and neutering?" Brett started.

Reagan didn't actually think about that. She hits her steering wheel hard.

"Shit! I forget about that. Isn't it like hundreds of dollars just to remove the dam balls. Dammit!." Reagan said in frustration.

"I mean.. I think you can wait a couple weeks before you give him all those shots. It'll be fine"

"I'm not going to let him catch some disease that's going to kill him. Who knows how long he's been out on the streets for. He could have cat cancer for all I know"

Brett shrugged, not really sure what to respond with. Laika has stopped chewing on the bone, her head tilting side to side with the conversation. She moved forward, her head sticking out from between the two driver seats with a smile. Reagan and Brett smiled, petting the dog with one hand.

"We'll deal with that tomorrow. Let's just set the cat stuff up and see if Raine likes it."

Reagan sighed "Alright."

Arriving back at Reagan's house, Raine was laying on the couch. The door opens with Brett and Reagan carrying everything from the shopping trip inside. He looks at them curiously, jumping off before seeing another creature following them

"Does Laika need to stay outside?" Brett asked, holding onto the leash tightly as Laika pulled. Reagan shrugged.

"Let Raine get used to her. Just have Laika smell him or something." She replies, setting the stuff down on the living room floor. Raine immediately ran over and hid behind her. His eyes staring at the creature that chased him earlier.

"Okay.." Slowly he walked toward where Reagan was with Laika ahead of him. Raine looked like he was about to run off but Reagan used her leg to pet. He purred and rubbed himself onto her leg instinctively. Laika was now in front of him, the only barrier between them was Reagan.

"Down Girl." Brett gulped as she smelled the cat. The dog circled around Reagan, looking at Raine. Then she laid on the floor, right next to him. Raine tilted his head and approached, his tail high and straight. He pawed her although the dog didn't react, just with a look of curiosity. Next, he climbed onto her back sniffing her. Again no reaction from Lakia. Finally, Raine jumped down and just looked at her.

Reagan and Brett held their breath. Was this good or bad? The animals were just staring at each other. Did it mean something?

Suddenly Raine came closer to her and laid beside Laika. His head turned toward her and rubbed it on her hind legs. A smile formed on Lakia's face as she licked his head, making him stop for a moment before continuing.

"Holy shit. That worked" Reagan mumbled, stepping away. She didn't get a response from her friend and saw a very happy expression on his face. His hands on his face and a very big smile on his face.

"Oh my god, this is so cute! AH! I need a picture!" Brett exclaimed, taking his phone out and snapping a picture. Reagan rolled her eyes playfully, before hitting him gently.

"Come on. We got to get everything set up. I think we can leave them alone now that they're not going to kill each other"

Brett nods and unleashes Lakia and grabs the bags following Reagan to her basement. Setting all this up couldn't be too hard.

"Done"

An hour later, they built the litter box and the cat tower. They don't know where to put them but Reagan could deal with it later. Brett was going to leave as it was getting dark so they left to get Laika.

They find their pets snuggled up next to each other on the couch asleep.

"Ahhhh. Oh my gosh. They're like brother and sister now." Brett said quietly. "I don't want to wake up them"

Reagan didn't want to either. She sighed tiredly but smiled.

"Guess we're doing a sleepover."

"Yeah!"
