I was sitting in the Hogwarts express staring out into space, I was alone in my compartment. I liked sitting alone on the train, if I fell asleep there would be no one to wake me up. I am starting my 5th year at Hogwarts. I was gonna have my O.W.L's this year, how lovely, but my mind wasn't on that. My mind was lost in thoughts of stress, fear, and future pain. It was a daily thing I thought about being a werewolf and all that, I know that no one that doesn't need to know knows, I hope that no one that doesn't need to know knows. I would even be scared to tell my sister Tory if she wasn't there for the whole thing. Every now and then, mostly when full moon was that week, I would think back to that day multiple times and put myself through hell multiple times. Sometimes I can still remember the long and torturous pain of it all.

It was Christmas Eve and I was 10, by this point Tory was already in her second year and I had to wait until next year to enter Hogwarts. I don't know why but we were both in her room, I'm pretty sure I was helping her unpack or find something. Our parents were outside of the house shoveling snow, at the time, we lived in a muggle neighborhood so we couldn't be lazy and just use magic to shovel up the snow and the snow didn't seem to stop falling. They went out there every couple hours to clear the driveway and steps leading up to the house. Out of nowhere the back door opened and we assumed it was dad coming in to ask us to grab the salt as he always did. I was going towards the door but Tory opened it, "I got it, continue what you were doing." She told me before heading downstairs. It wasn't even a minute before I heard an ear piercing scream coming from downstairs. Naturally I was curious and worried so I raced downstairs over to Tory only to be faced with a blood thirsty werewolf who I now know was Fenrir Greyback. Tory was frozen with fear, I grabbed her by the arm and basically dragged her back upstairs to her room, locking the door behind us. We were able to hear our parents try to get inside but I could assume Greyback already locked the door and they didn't bring their wands outside. When Tory finally fully registered what was going on she took her wand out of her trunk and pushed me into a closet. "No matter what happens stay in here, I'll be hiding over there." She pointed from the hiding spot diagonal from mine and I nodded.

We were able to hear him banging on the door and growling. How our parents hadn't gotten inside by now? No clue but it didn't take him long to bust down the door, Tory made the mistake of making a noise while he was in the room and he started to slowly approach her without her noticing. I was able to see all this through a crack in the closet, and I don't know why, but something made my feet move and I ran over to Greyback. Now face to face with the hungry wolf, I thought for some reason it was smart to pull down on his arm then quickly walk over to a different area of the room. I opened the window behind me, "Hey! Fresh meat over here! Come and get it if you can!" The goal was to distract him and get him to accidentally fall out the window. Only half of that goal was met, he bolted over to me and with ease he wrestled me to the ground when he started to mercilessly scratch and bite me. Tory quickly shot a spell to get him off me but by then I was clinging onto life. I heard someone yell my name, but I don't know what happened after that, I was out for two days after that. But mom, dad, and Tory seemed alright when I woke up in St. Mungos Hospital. I had plenty more than a few scars after that, the worse ones being on my face. I cover them up with makeup and wear long sleeves to hide the ones on my arms.

I was busy thinking about all this when Tory came up to my compartment and sat next to me. "Those seats across from you must be interesting," She wrapped her arm around me, that finally got my attention. "How come you don't sit with your friends? Or Me?"

"I didn't know where either you or they were sitting."

"Bullshit, you know I always sit with Fred, George and Lee. You also know you're welcome there whenever you want."

"I don't know where they are sitting then."

"You're afraid aren't you." I sat in silence, that was a good part of the reason I didn't go to them. But the main was simply because I liked being alone. Tory always made my mostly anti-social life seem like a crime. I would hang out with her more if I could, but we're in different years and houses. She's now in her 7th year and in Gryffindor while I'm in my 5th year and in Ravenclaw. "If you aren't coming to my compartment at least go to hang out with one of your friends, you really can't just sit here and stare at the seat across from you the whole trip." She said as she grabbed my arm and pulled me out of my seat, I lost my balance and nearly fell.

"No no I'm good staying here," I said as I tried to sit back down but Tory pulled me right back up again. "Plus I was about to fall asleep." Tory rolled her eyes

"Cut the crap, you slept like a baby last night you don't need anymore sleep."

"Ok fine but I wiped of my makeup because I did actually plan on taking a nap, but you know how I feel about anyone figuring this out, friend or not it doesn't matter." By now I hadn't realized Tory already dragged me out of my compartment and lead me over to a different one, the door was closed. "How do you know whose in here?"

"I don't"

"But what if it isn't someone I know?"

"Then you'll get to know them, River." Tory then left me outside the compartment and I watched her walk but over to hers. I was going to just go back in my old compartment but someone just had to claim it, just my luck. I knocked on the compartment door and it was Ron that opened the door and I was able to see Harry and Hermione sitting down in the back. Thank the lord, I was pretty close to them and they knew me well enough.

"Do you guys mind if I sit here? Other places are full." I asked before Ron moved aside to let me in.

"No, come in River." I then walked in a sat down near the corner of one of the seats just to make sure I wasn't in their way of anything. "Bloody hell what happened to your face?" Of course that had to be the first thing brought up. I hesitated before answering, I was easier to read than a book. I trusted them but not as much as I trusted people such as Ginny, Luna and Neville. If I had to tell anyone the truth it would be them.

"Just got into an accident while I was taking a hike." I explained, Ron seemed to believe it, I had a history of being clumsy before. However, Harry and Hermione didn't seem as accepting to that story. I'm just grateful one of them didn't call me out on my obvious lie. After a moment of silence we starting to have an actual conversation that wasn't about my scars. But during the whole conversation I could easily tell Harry wasn't acting right, he made it easy to tell something was on his mind. I bet it was because Voldemort was back, nothing feels the same anymore. I had taken the time to cover my scars up with makeup again just in case somebody were to come in. Hermione was against me trying to hide them, I don't know why because she had been looking at me weirdly for some time to the point it made me uncomfortable.

When the train stopped I walked out with the three of them. Malfoy caught up to us eventually and said a usually annoying comment about Harry but Harry wasn't having it. If Ron didn't grab him he would've certainly beat the shit out of Malfoy on the spot. We went over to the the carriages when, again, Harry was acting odd. Neville was there with us. Harry claimed to have saw something pulling the carriages but no one saw anything. But that's when Luna made her presence known to us. "I can see them too, your just as sane as I am." She said causing Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville to give her a weird look while I was just confused on what 'them' was. We got in the carriage with her, no one seemed to willingly sit next to her other than me. I never seemed to really understand why people acting strange around her. But at the same time I knew her pretty well since we were in the same house plus she was one of the few people I could trust with anything. We went the whole journey in the carriage without saying a word.
