Robert is possessed-ish by the demon? When the demon took control Robert WAS actually dead. But then he got put back in his body (for some reason I don't know yet) So when he saw the others the demon lost control of the body for a bit. How do you know it's Robert?
His eye changes from green (Robert)
And red. (Demon)
