Natsuki's hand hovered over the doorbell for a good five minutes. She huffed, wiping her sweaty palms on her skirt. Why was she so nervous? She took a deep breath, and moved her hand back to ring the doorbell. But before she could, the door swung open, and Nat was greeted with Yuri's face.
"AAAH!" She jumped back.
"Hi, Natsuki." Yuri gave her a small wave.
"How did you know I was here??"
"I saw you from my bedroom window." Yuri nodded up to the window on the second floor where the curtains were parted. Natsuki felt herself flush with embarrassment.
"W-Whatever! Are you gonna welcome me inside or not?"
Yuri chuckled, and stepped aside to let Natsuki in. They went up to her room. Natsuki had never been to Yuri's house before. Their walls, which were painted a deep purple, were covered with The Cure posters and photos of cats pinned here and there, and their lace curtains were black with fairy lights strung over the rod. Natsuki sat on the floor against their bed, Yuri taking a seat next to her.
It was quiet for a moment. Caught up in their excitement, neither of them had come up with anything to do.
"Do you, um," Natsuki found it in herself to speak up. Dammit, why was she so nervous? Yuri looked at her with expectant purple eyes. "want to write poems? Or something?"
"Sure." Yuri took her notebook off her desk, and ripped out a page, handing it to Natsuki along with a pen.
Nat stared at the blank page, occasionally glancing up to see Yuri writing on their paper, their hand moving in swift, loopy movements. She bit the inside of her cheek, and touched her pen to the first line.
After few silent minutes, she looked at what she'd written.
The Spider
'The spider in your room
Listens when you cry
He sits silent on his web
With you throughout the night
The spider in your room
You forget he's there
He hears all your sorrow
He hears your despair
When nobody listens
When nobody understands
The spider in your room
Will always be your friend'
Not bad, she thought.
Her eyes wandered in Yuri's direction once more. They were still writing, their eyes zeroed in on the paper, completely sucked into their own world. She returned to the paper, and flipped it over, writing a new poem on the back in a small font.
The two of them spent the rest of the afternoon baking and hanging out. They were sitting on Yuri's bed, snacking on cupcakes and chatting, as the evening sun began to warm the windows.
"And then Monika totally spilled it everywhere! It took forever to clean up, and she still won't admit she did it!" Natsuki rambled on, recalling a story from not to long ago. Yuri laughed, a warm, pleasant sound. Nat trailed off, her attention captivated by the person sitting next to her. She hadn't before realized just how gorgeous she thought Yuri was. Her purple hair curtained her soft face, with her downturned features, and soft violet eyes that glowed when she talked about something she was passionate about.
"Nat?"
"Y-Yeah?"
Yuri grinned shyly, looking at her. Their violet eyes met her own magenta ones, and Nat felt her heart beat warmly in her chest.
"Thanks for coming over. The weekends are usually pretty lonely." They fiddled with their sleeves. "I had a really good time."
Natsuki feels her face heat up, and she waves a hand in the dark haired girl's direction.
"Whatever! It's no big deal." She looked away, hoping Yuri wouldn't notice her pinkened cheeks.
"I mean it, Natsuki," They said with a lighthearted giggle. "I like spending time with you."
Why was Natsuki's heart beating so fast..? What was happening to her?
".. I like spending time with you too, Yuri."
