“So… What’s up with the pastor?” Gregory Montanha sighed, hearing those words, and shot a tired look at Hank. Not a single day could pass without somebody asking him that, all it took was a single mention of Erwin to have someone ask a stupid question or make a joke. Usually, it was Hank Over himself, gossip girl number one, who would start the topic, and then everyone, including cadets that heard about Morwin for the first time when they had just joined the force, would join the conversation. Whether they were in the precinct, on an intervention, or, just like now, on a patrol, Erwin Knuckles was a hot topic.
“Same old shit,” he murmured, turning left on the intersection. And just like on cue, a Lamborghini in an eye-catching neon pink color, passed them by.
They looked at each other, Gregory felt even more tired than before, but Hank smiled knowingly. There was only one Lambo in the city, and it belonged to the one and only, Pastor.
“Don’t even say anything…” Gregory sighed and turned back, just in time to see the pastor somehow drive on the road barrier and jump in the air.
“I haven’t said anything! Yet.” Hank shrugged, watching with a sour face as the car did a barrel roll in the air and landed on its roof. “And if I’m being honest, I’m beginning to lose faith in you.”
“Wow, thanks.” Gregory left the police car. Erwin managed to quickly tumble out of the car unscathed, even if he was a bit pale. “Pastor, I thought that you finally learned how to drive!”
“I’m not wanted!” Erwin yelled back at him without even looking away from the car he was trying to turn over.
“Oi, oi, Mr. Knuckles, I wouldn’t do that. Maybe we’ll call for a tow truck? And by the time it will have arrived, I could already give you the ticket for reckless driving…” said Hank, already pulling out his tablet. Erwin listened for once in his life and only leaned back on his car, giving them a stink-eye. Gregory expected to hear at least two different versions of the story and a few insults by now, but Erwin was unusually quiet.
“Why are you so quiet today?” he asked, but Erwin only crossed his arms and murmured something. Gregory came closer and theatrically put his hand up to his ear. “Oh, I don’t think I caught that?”
“I LOST A BET!” Erwin yelled, making Gregory jump away. “And now what, did you really need to come that close? That’s what I fucking thought! And what about that tow truck, I won’t wait here for the whole day, you so-called fucking professionals. And by the way, fuck the police. I’m calling for a ride. Hello Carbo, I need help, immediately… WHAT DO YOU MEAN PALETO?”
Gregory smiled, hearing his usual babble. Talkativeness wasn’t a rare trait among Los Santos citizens, but it was Erwin who he liked to listen to the most. His fabricated on the spot alibis were sticking together better than his old Corvette to the ground, and when he was retelling real events with a spark in his eyes and a smile on his face, Gregory couldn’t look away from him… As if normally he didn’t have that problem.
“Those fuckers betrayed me…” Erwin mumbled out when he looked back at the policemen. Hank handed him the ticket, but Erwin wasn’t looking at him, and Gregory already knew what was going to happen. “Grzesiu…”
“Erwinku…”
“Isn’t the fine too high?” They smiled at each other, ignoring Hank, who was standing with crossed arms a few steps away from them.
“It’s probably too low if you’re asking me. You know, you gotta make up for every fine you ran away from.” Gregory shrugged and sighed theatrically, but Erwin only rolled his eyes.
“I didn’t know you were boring! Okay, fine, you should’ve started with that…”
“Oh, stop messing with me, pastor!”
