Sage's ex-boyfriend, Mario, had finally reached out to her after months of silence. She was surprised to hear from him, especially since they had ended things on less than amicable terms.

Their relationship had been tumultuous, to say the least. They had fought constantly, and eventually, Sage had decided it was time to move on.

However, Mario seemed to be reaching out for a more urgent reason. He had mentioned that he had heard about Sage's mother's recent loss and that he wanted to be there for her if she would allow it.

Sage's father had also been trying to get in touch with her, but she had been avoiding him. She couldn't bear the thought of having to talk to him after all these years, especially after what had happened with her mother.

Despite her reservations, Sage agreed to meet with Mario. There was something about his tone that made her believe he was genuine in his desire to help her.

They arranged to meet at a café in downtown, and Sage spent the morning getting ready. She wanted to look her best, just in case things went south.

When she arrived at the café, she saw Mario sitting at a table in the back. He looked just as she remembered him, with his thick, brown, and curly hair and bright brown eyes.

As she approached him, she felt a mix of emotions. Part of her was excited to see him again, but another part of her was guarded. She didn't want to let her guard down too quickly.

They started with small talk, catching up on what they had been doing since they had last seen each other. However, after a few minutes, Mario got to the point.

He told Sage that he had heard about her mother's passing and that he wanted to be there for her. He knew how close Sage had been to her mother, and he was worried about how she was coping.

Sage was surprised by Mario's willingness to help. She knew their relationship had been rocky, but she never doubted that he cared about her.

He asked her if she had spoken to her father, and Sage admitted that she had been avoiding him. She didn't want to deal with the drama that always seemed to follow him.

Mario's urged her to talk to her father, insisting that he might be a good source of support during this difficult time. Sage wasn't sure if she was ready for that, but she promised to think about it.

After their meeting, Sage couldn't stop thinking about Mario's offer of help. She wondered if she was being too stubborn by refusing to talk to her father.

However, she couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to Mario's motivation than just wanting to help her. She sensed that he was hiding something, but she couldn't put her finger on what it was.

Days turned into weeks, and Sage tried to keep busy to keep her mind off of everything that was going on. However, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was about to happen, something that would change everything.

One day, she received a call from Mario, asking her to meet him at the same café. This time, he seemed more urgent than ever, and Sage could hear the panic in his voice.

When she arrived at the café, she saw Mario waiting for her, but something was different. He looked scared, like he was in trouble. Sage knew that whatever he had to say was going to change everything.

With a shaky voice, Mario told her the news that would shatter everything she had ever known. He revealed a secret that would change her life forever, and end the conversation with a cliffhanger.
