It was weeks since they got the depressing news and for Mascabado it felt like forever; trying to keep their cool about it but deep down they were hurting as all they ever wanted was to make her husband happy
Later at night when Cronut arrived home, he saw her laying on the bed, clutching to a pillow near her stomach and not saying a single word
"Babe?...babe, are you...alright?"-he asked as he sat in a side of the bed sounding concerned
"Hhm? Oh yeah I'm fine...quite fine actually, haha"-the white haired cookie said attempting to sound convincing but her husband looked at her concerned embracing her and finally broke down into tears, sobbing hard
"I...I'm sorry....I'm so sorry...I just wanted to make you happy and not to worry about me...I'm a failure of a wife and as a woman..."-they said as Cronut rubbed her back and shushed her
"Don't say that...Mascabado...babe..look at me"-he said as he placed his hand on her chin and wiped her tears away
"You are not a failure of a wife or a woman...you are stronger than you think and you have shown me many times that no matter how hard life has dragged you down, you always stand tall..."-he said to her as she sniffed hard and kept crying
"But...I truly want this baby...I want to be able to have one..."-she said still teary eyed
"I know, I know...and we will get one"-he said as he kissed her forehead and hugged her, she sniffled a bit as she looked at him
"Really? You mean it?"-she said while holding his hands
"Yes, babe. I'll make a few calls and lets see if tomorrow can have an appointment"-he said as he pulled out his phone and dialed up a number making them all curious but she fixed herself and got up from bed to shake up a little
By the next day, the couple pulled into a large white building and as they enter they were sat down in an office filled with pics of cookie families and their kids
"Good evening you two! So are you here to apply for the adoption system?"-a cookie in formal outfit asked them as the couple nodded in agreement
"Alright! So I just need you to fill out the applications and-"-but before continuing, Mascabado cut them off
"Um sorry, but if we filled these does that mean that we automatically we get a kid?"-she asked all confused
"Miss Mascabado, I understand your excitement and you might be too eager to adopt a kid already, but these process takes time, first we need to make sure a family is up to give their baby for adoption or if the foster care is up to let you adopt...is a grueling process, if I say so myself"-the cookie explained making the tan cookie look a bit upset before her husband held her hand
"...So how long will it take then?"-Cronut spoke up as the social worker eyed at him with a concerned expression
"Well, I cannot tell sir...I mean with what I'm seeing..."-they said as they gave a quick glance at Cronut's arm which he understood
"Look, if you're thinking I'm a criminal, I'm only in their eyes...I'm a police officer, I'm just off duty today"-he said making the worker calm down a little and apologized for it. The couple and the worker talked for a while until they got the paperwork are filed up and signed
"Okay, I'll give you a call for when a new baby cookie is up to adoption, just be a little more patient"-they said as the couple thanked them and got out the office with a more relaxed than before
As the days passed, Mascabado and Cronut were already planning on expanding their house to another room and patiently waiting to get the awaited call. And after a long while, they heard their phone rang
"I'll get it!"-Mascabado said to her husband as she rushed over the phone
"Hello?"-they asked as they picked up
"Hello Miss Mascabado, I'm calling you from the Adoption Agency. We've got some great news..."-the social worker said from the other end sounding eager about it as they chatted on the phone
"Oh thank you. We're so happy to go...really thank you so much. See you next Saturday"-She said as they hang up and looked at Cronut with a glimmer in their dark green eyes
"Who was it, babe?"-he asked her sticking his head out from the kitchen
"The Adoption Agency worker...its happening"-they said as they teared up a little making Cronut smile and go wide eyed
"No way, really?"-he exclaimed dropping the wooden spoon as his wife nodded with her lips quivering-"Oh my Millennial Tree!"-and he picked her up, spinning her around the living room
"We're finally becoming parents!"-he said as he kissed her and cried together
