Stare at a wall that's told a thousand tragedies, holding a hand that's loved every part of me
Ignis couldn't fathom that this was actually happening. Noctis had been in his care ever since he was young. Ignis had been smarter than your average child, hence why the King had entrusted him to be Noct's advisor. They had become like brothers pretty early on, he was Noct's confidante. When Noct had nightmares after Tenebrae, he had been there. Noctis was the thing in his life that never changed. He learned to cook for him, he learned to bake for him, and he still had never got the dessert quite right. Who would he make it for if not Noct? His charge could be bratty, but Ignis also babied him. He didn't force him to eat his vegetables, although he wished he would. He needed him to take care of or else he wouldn't know what he would do with himself. Noctis had been through so much and to be in this state once more after everything wasn't okay. He reached a shaking hand to the one on the bed.
A lady comes and tells me that I've got to leave, right away everybody is the enemy
Gladio couldn't stop shaking. He was supposed to protect Noct, but he couldn't. He hadn't been able to protect him. The nurses had tried to make them leave, but Gladio had refused. He found himself standing vigil over everything they did. All of their records were clean but that didn't mean shit to him. What are you putting in his IV? What is it going to do? A couple had sent him a glare, but he had ignored them. Give him an answer dammit or get out of the room and send someone that can answer. The King arrived, of course he would, it was his son. The nurses once again tried to get them all to leave. Prompto scrambled to his feet so fast he nearly knocked over the chair he had curled into a ball in. King Regis held his hand up in a placating gesture, motioning for Prompto to resume sitting, it was fine, before turning to the nurse. No, they do not have to leave the room, they are his friends, and they may remain here as long as they wish.
Deep breaths from the room where I watch you lie, any beat from your hearts gets me through the night
Prompto curled into himself in the overly plush chair, pulling his knees up to his chest because his anxiety was threatening to overwhelm him. He couldn't let that happen. Gladio and Ignis had enough going on in their heads, they didn't need to be calming him down on top of it too. Ignis was really quiet, and Gladio was so mad, and it didn't help him at all. He tried instead to focus on the heart monitor steadily beeping. Doing his best to even out his breathing in time with them, but when he heard Gladio say 'your majesty' he panicked and scrambled up. It didn't occur to him at first that he was only here to see his son. But the gentle hand being held up stopped any further action and he slowly sank back into the chair. He shyly studied the King, finding he seemed a bit less scary when he acted fatherly.
You're my love
Gladio hadn't always wanted to be Noct's protector. In fact had often loathed the thought when he was younger. But he knew now that Noctis depended on him. It didn't matter he had only just turned 20 himself. He had gotten stuck on citadel duty that day, which had sucked, but after he got off work Noctis invited him to his apartment, well more like demanded, and they'd had a mini party for him with just the four of them and it had been good after all. For all the badass and princely shit to Noct, he had a soft heart, one that Gladio hoped stayed. He had grown to love the kid. He sort of forever had his respect after getting into trouble for his sister. Noctis had become something of a kid brother to him, and it was because of him that he was able to willingly give his life everyday, because Noct meant that much to him.
You're my death
Ever since they had become friends, Prompto depended on Noct. He was always there when Prompto was having a hard time and he seemed down and out. Panic attack at school was embarrassing as fuck but ever since he had learned how to deal with them he always took Prompto to a different room and made sure he was okay. Never in his life did he think he'd have a friend that did that for him. He remembered once he had a panic attack at his own house. He couldn't remember what had brought it on, but he was supposed to hang out with Noct that night. He must have passed out because he woke up to someone pounding at his door, before Noct made Gladio break the lock and next thing he knew his best friend was in his face looking like he was about to have a heart attack. 'Oh shit, Iggy I think he passed out. Prom can you hear me? Hey, Prom? Prom! Iggy wants to know if you hit your head. You good? Prom talk to me.' 'Please do give him a moment to answer you your highness before bombarding the poor lad with more questions' Prompto hadn't been able to talk very well for a few minutes. But he had managed to get across that he had a panic attack. He hadn't thought about it till later, but Noct had come looking for him when he didn't answer his thirty texts and fifteen calls. He could have got mad and said fuck it, but he had come looking for him to make sure he was okay instead. He thought that maybe without Noct that Gladio and Ignis would continue to do those things, but somehow he had his doubts. At this rate he was pretty sure Noct was the only thing tethering him to the world outside of his anxiety and depression.
