me, quinn, chad, mindy, anika, tara, sam and ethan all sat at our spot outside of blackwell university.
"okay nerds, listen up," mindy spoke up getting our attentions. "as terrifying as this is, i'm actually glad! i get a chance to redeem myself for not calling the killers last time," mindy laughed to herself as she walked in circles in front of us. "okay," she sighed, starting her ramble again. "the way i see it, someone is out to make a requel to the sequel..."
i looked around at my friends taking in their reactions, eyes landing on ethan. i smiled at him as he scooted closer to me. i took this gesture as a sign to take his hand into mine. quinn noticing this and wiggling her eyebrows at me, a smirk growing on her face.
"um, what's a requel?" anika asked, looking from mindy to me, and back to mindy. mindy was really similar to her uncle, randy meeks. she loved movies and pretty much predicts everything before anything even happens. she really is just like her uncle. "you're beautiful sweetie, but lets hold our questions until the end," mindy speaks to her girlfriend who tilts her head to the side in annoyance. mindy continues on her ramble about when and where the stab movies taking place, and how stab 2 took place in college. exactly where we are right now.
i look over at ethan who has worry written all over his face. i squeezed his hand and drew my attention back to mindy. "so do we think the killer is trying to copy the movies?" tara asks mindy who points and nods her head a couple times. "that is a possibility. hero is now in college," she continues on about how new characters were brought into our lives such as ethan, quinn and anika. ethan looked offended as he squeezed my hand harder as he spoke. "i don't like this," he shakes his head. "mindy, stop. this isn't a movie ok? this is our lives, not sidneys," i speak sticking up for ethan who she was targeting. "it would make sense if this was a sequel but we aren't in a sequel, ok? you were almost killed in the bodega, and so were you tara," mindy says, shooting a glance over at tara who nods and bites her nails. "this is a franchise," mindy adds to her previous statement, quinn scoffs and starts to get up but sits back down when mindy starts yet again.
mindy starts listing off the rules of a franchise and i was trying to keep up but all i could think about was that mask ghostface was wearing. "mindy," i spoke again cutting her off. "where in a franchise does the killer switch out his infamous mask with a dirty, old one?" i asked, contradicting her statements and honestly hoping she had an answer. "it would make sense if the killer was using an older mask, from previous killers but, i don't know, it seems almost impossible," she speaks, trying to answer my question. "previous killers?" i question, looking over at sam. "yeah, you know, like jill roberts, or um, i don't know, billy loomis," she says looking over at tara who is already looking at sam.
"in a franchise, any and all characters can go. main characters are expendable, which means you could die, amelia, and so could you and sam," she says looking over at tara. "great! that is really comforting, thanks mindy!" i speak as i look at ethan who pulls me into a hug. i felt comforted by him, almost safe. his little gestures went a long way. "wait, does that mean any of us can go? like including me?" he asks, his body tensing. mindy nods as ethan speaks again, "does that mean i'm in the friend group?" he asks pulling away from me. "yes," mindy repeats as if she was talking to a little kid. "so, i'm one of the targets?" he looks around at our friends, eyes landing on quinn who giggles a little bit. i brushed it off since quinn is always laughing at him. she sees him as socially awkward and to be honest, a little bit annoying.
"does that mean i'm going to die a virgin?" he says, catching all of us off guard, as my mouth drops. "you're a?" i look up at him in disbelief. "well obviously amelia, have you seen him?" quinn shoots a glare at ethan and laughs. i laugh with her as mindy speaks. "that was a weird overshare, that brings us to our current suspects," she says as she points at ethan. "you. shy, dorky guy who no one suspects because he's so shy and dorky," mindy accuses ethan and i go over what she says in my head a couple times. her words becoming engraved in my head.
