squinting your eyes, you gaze into the distance. the orange-red sun slowly disappears behind the horizon, painting the sky in beautiful colors.

a next day passes, the sun drags this one with it, igniting the dark night.

another night of many.

another night where the day of others begins, where others are already asleep.

how different people can be, how different lives can be.

uniqueness corresponds to each of us, that's for sure.

"what are you thinking about?" you hear rin's soft voice next to you. your lips curl into a small smile, then you turn your head in his direction.

your eyes meet his, which have already been looking at you.

for how long, you don't know.

"about us. well, about everything," you're ashamed, leaning against the hood of his car. the car with which he has won a race, together with you, his own lucky charm.

you remember the first race you drove with him, now it's his car again. yoichi and sae were able to pick it up again, have many contacts.

"you know, you think too much. turn off your head and concentrate on the things that really matter, that really count," he slides over to you, putting his muscular arm around your shoulders, pulling you closer to his warm body.

every now and then rin has his moments when he's not this respected man who races illegally, or this cold asshole who hardly lets anyone get close to him.

rin knows a lot about life, how to enjoy it.

one thing you envy about him so incredibly even in such a predicament that ruins everything.

"you're so important, rin. and what we have is important, because i love you," you murmur from your lips, but he heard it, has to stifle a broad smile.

he loves you too, more than anything and it will stay that way. even if fate will separate you, even if it's only for a few months or a few years, right?

"they can't separate us, babe. somewhere they know we'll still see each other and won't stop loving," he presses a long kiss to your temple — a warm feeling spreads through your body.

rin's love and closeness is what you need to be happy.

you don't know how to endure a half year, 6 months, 182 days and nights without him until you are reunited.

"they really got tsukiko and you out of the shit. they payed the bill for tsukiko and you would have gone to jail for a few weeks, but they got you out too, oh god. maybe their heart is in the right place after all," you shrug, talking about your parents while let out a sigh.

you just can't understand them and their actions.

it's like you're missing the last piece of a giant puzzle.

"they love you. they just can't show it and they do a lot of things wrong, even if they mean well. but they have never been bad people," he stands up straight, watching the sun disappear behind the horizon and taking the last light of the day with it.

the last night follows, in which you are here.

in the morning you will be driven directly to the boarding school where you'll start your last half year and graduate. the degree your parents always wanted. after that, you'll go straight to college, to one of those universities whose monthly prices are as high as a new car.

the thought of it makes you sick to your stomach, you would love to run away with rin and never come back, but you can't do that either.

"shall we go? seishiro is surely already waiting," he holds out his hand to you, which you gratefully accept.

it hurts to think of the moment when you'll tell your best friend everything. he doesn't know anything yet, especially doesn't know that you're leaving tomorrow.

you just didn't have the heart to tell him because it will be very hard for him, just like for rin, you and even tsukiko.

[...]

"hell, your look tells me something is wrong," seishiro says seriously, after going to his room with you two.

now it's already pitch dark outside, only the moon and the stars illuminate the quiet neighborhood.

tears form in your eyes, which worries him. he rarely sees you cry, no matter how shitty you are. seeing you like this he questions everythig and also rin silently looks at the ground as well.

"come on, tell me, y/n," he reaches for your cool hand, clasps it with his warm one.

you look at him from veiled eyes. the tears stand in your eyes, they don't want to roll out. "seishiro, tomorrow i'm going to the boarding school i told you about," you whisper, avoiding his penetrating gaze.

he thinks he has misheard you, but now your behavior finally makes sense.

"why? what have you done?" his words sound harsh, but he doesn't mean them that way.

rin speaks up after he notices how silent you are, how you can't form a sentence.

"we were caught by the cops. i was driving the race and y/n was sitting next to me. her parents got me and my cousin out of there, but put y/n there as punishment. it's my fault bro, i'm sorry."

your heart tightens. while you've already assured him that he's not to blame, he still gives it to himself.

and that's the way it's going to stay.

"if it was anyone's fault, it was mine. i dragged her to the race and that's how you met. if it wasn't for me, you would never have met," seishiro runs his hands over his face in despair.

"stop, oh my god. no one is to blame. please don't say things like that and make me feel worse. it happened, but i don't regret anything," you raise your voice, startling the two boys who didn't expect it. "it's only a half year. one fucking half year. we'll talk on the phone every day, alright? i'm eagerly waiting for the day when you'll pick me up."
