This story begins on a bright Monday morning, surprisingly nice for a Monday. The sun shone in the cloudy blue sky. Kids boarded a cheerfully yellow school bus, teachers finished getting ready for the first class of the day. Parents waved to their kindergarteners, children chattered as they were driven to school. Birds sang clearly, and quiet chittering of animals could be heard if you listened closely.
Now, look closely. Closer. Ah, here they are.
A blue cat happily talked to a large fish which had legs. The merry bus was full of odd children, however, everything in this town was odd, so were they really that weird-looking? A blue balloon swooned over a cactus. A rainbow kid talked to a banana with googly eyes. A robot sat on a cushioned seat, processing some sort of update. A chin—also with googly eyes—giggled to herself about the passing things. It was a truly perfect morning. Soon the bus stopped, and the children began to hop off of the bus, beginning their school day.
This story continues on another bright morning, this time Tuesday. The sun shone in the cloudy blue sky. Again. Kids boarded a cheerfully yellow school bus (again), teachers finished getting ready for the first class of the day, (again). Parents waved to their kindergarteners (again), and children chattered as they were driven to school (again). The quiet chittering of animals could be heard if you listened closely. Again.
A blue cat happily talked to a large fish which had legs. The merry bus was full of odd children, however, everything in this town was odd, so were they really that weird-looking? A blue balloon swooned over a cactus. A rainbow kid talked to a banana with googly eyes. A robot sat on a cushioned seat, staring out of the window lonesomely. A chin—also with googly eyes—giggled to herself about the passing things. "Car!" She exclaimed. "Dog!" She exclaimed. "Blue!" She exclaimed. But something was wrong. Something wasn't the same as before.
The orange fish with legs sighed; his brother had been telling him about Penny for the 50th time or so. "Darwin, hello? Earth to Darwinnn!" Gumball, the cat, waved his hand in front of Darwin's face. Darwin laughed lightly. "I'm here, I'm here! But seriously, dude. You tell me about Penny like, every day. Gimme a break from all this romance stuff!" Darwin told the blue cat, rolling his eyes. "All this, 'Penny is so cute!', and, 'I love her so much!' is a bit cheesy, you know." Gumball grinned. "Romance was made to be cheesy!" The bus abruptly stopped. They were at school.
" Miss Simiannnn!" Gumball groaned. "We didn't even do anything wrong!"
"No. You're going to the counselors office. Shoo." The grouchy teacher shoved the children out of the office. Darwin sighed. "It was just a little writing. It wasn't even that bad!" Gumball ranted. "It was even a nice thing to say! It's not vandalism, it's a mural!" They entered the office, slamming the door open. "Oh- hello children, I assume we will discuss your actions?" The fluffy counselor asked them. Gumball nodded, and Darwin said, "Probably." and sat on a chair beside Gumball. "Hm..so, you vandalized the wall to write the phrase, 'Have a nice day'. Correct?" He asked the children. "Yep." Gumball said, shrugging. "It's not even bad."
The counselor, Mr.Small, sighed to himself. The bratty, annoying- he stopped himself there. They weren't that bad. Sometimes. And after all, they just wanted to do good, they had just done it in the absolute worst way possible. He stood off of his chair, leaving the papers on his desk. The cloud-like man walked down the hallway, knocking on the door to the nurse's office. The door soon opened, revealing a bandaid which wore a nurse's uniform. "What do you want..?" She said, already irritated. "Aspirin. Like always." The nurse nodded, and grabbed something from a shelf, dropping it into his outstretched hand. "Go away." She growled. He sighed, walking away. He hadn't had to take aspirin in a while, usually his tea worked well enough..
The nurse, named Ms.Markham, though barely anybody actually knew her name, walked over to her cabinet, beginning to rearrange medicines that were out of place, or knocked over. As always, the office was a mess. Suddenly, there was another knock on the door. She knew exactly who this was. "Come in, Teri." She sighed. "No, you will not die because you touched the doorknob without using hand sanitizer afterwards. No, you a tear in your arm will not get infected, you are made out of paper. No, just because you coughed does not mean you have pneumonia." The nurse said. "It's not that! I...I.. think I'm actually sick!" Teri squealed. "Fine. What are your symptoms besides coughing." Ms.Markham said, agitated as always. "I sneezed this morning! And my head hurts! And, and.." The nurse cut her off there. "I'll take your temperature, and then you will go away." The bandaid-nurse grabbed the thermometer and stuck it in Teri's mouth the best she could. "Oh. You're actually right for once. You have a fever." The nurse said, lightly surprised. "Take this and come back later if you are still sick." She said nonchalantly, dropping a pill into the paper bear's hand. Hm. She's never actually sick.
Richard Watterson. What do you think of when you hear that name? An obese rabbit? A character from a show? The wife of Nicole? The father of Gumball and Darwin? Whatever you think of, he isn't a character known for intelligence. To put it simply, he's idiotic. But no matter how stupid, he does pay attention to detail. The rabbit dug through the fridge. Where on earth was his pizza? He had put it away in here last night. It was here this morning, here when Nicole left for work, here when the children boarded the bus. So. Where. Was. His. Pizza!? Perhaps he had eaten it, and forgotten, as that's happened before. Yeah. That's what happened. He had eaten it, and just forgot all about eating it. Richard frowned, grabbing a sandwich (extra ham), and sat down on the couch, remote in hand. Right as he was about to play his favorite show, he realized one thing.
The birds hadn't sang today.
