There was falling rubble everywhere (Y/O) went, it was like a never ending battle between life and death and whether or not they were going to end up crushed beneath a pile of debris. They couldn't remember exactly when this all had started, just that it was at least a week or maybe a month ago by now. But that wasn't the important part, the important thing is that that was when the apocalypse had started. It's not your typical zombie virus outbreak either or maybe it was, it's hard to say with what little information there was. Although there were zombies around the apocalypse started with the borders being closed quite suddenly and only a few moments later an announcement had been made to signal that everyone should stay inside and lock every window, door, and whatever else to make sure that you were safe but hadn't said why. (Y/O), slightly confused, obliged anyways as they double checked the locks on everything they could.
And then the power went out. No big deal right? It'll just come back on soon. Nothing to worry about. At least you have (Y/O) still had their phone and even to their surprise it was at 89%, so it should hold them over until the power outage is over. Except the power never did come back on. Their phone started to be bombarded with notifications and alerts. Already confused they tried to quickly glance over them but each one was the same thing just worded slightly different than the previous one. A complete lock down, a few mentions of a virus, the apocalypse, and a team of robots that the government was planning to send out to help contain everything. Sure, the stuff about the apocalypse was interesting but the blurb about robots being sent out even more so.
Back to the present (Y/O) had managed to hole themself up in one the many abandoned buildings around the city. It was one of the few that didn't look like it was going to collapse in on itself any time soon. The only issue being that they were running low on food and rationing what was left would only get them so far, maybe a few days at most. With a sigh they set out of their little hideaway for the first time in a while. The whole city looked even more desolate and destroyed than it did the last time, almost immediately feeling like hope of finding food was crushed. But they couldn't just not try since starving seemed like a worse way to go than getting infected. Just thinking about it made them shudder. (Y/O) had to be extra careful when going out scavenging with so many things around them could simply crumble any moment. That and they had to keep their head on a swivel to make sure no zombies had been nearby or had gotten too close. It was probably one of the most nerve-wracking things they had to do, and each time they had to it always felt like their heart was going to beat out their chest.
This time was different and it certainly warranted the anxiety. Deep into the ruins of the city (Y/O) made it to what was a small convenience store that just so happened to look like it hadn't been looted yet. Lucky them. They practically ransacked the place trying to fit as much stuff as they could into the backpack they always carried when out. It filled up quickly and felt heavy on their shoulders as they made their way back out into the streets. Apparently they hadn't checked their surroundings thoroughly enough as they were pounced on by a zombie that seemed to have appeared out of thin air. (Y/O)'s back hit the pavement, knocking the air out of their lungs for a brief moment and before they could even throw up their arms to defend themselves a blast of blueish white light came hurtling towards them and the zombie before it exploded upon impact with the zombie. Frightened and shocked they laid there with wide eyes and panicked breathing before looking up and seeing a tall figure walk towards them.
The blast of the light had created a thick ring of smoke around them and as it cleared the figure could finally be seen more clearly. The first thing (Y/O) noticed was his eyes, they were glowing? It wasn't super visible but they were definitely emitting light. And then it hit them, this was one of the robots that the government had sent out so long ago. The clothing and metallic sound he made as he walked only confirmed it. He stopped in front of (Y/O), a large blaster in his hands before leaning down and holding out a hand to them. "Do not be afraid, for I am here now. Let me help you to safety." His voice sounded both robotic and human in nature, which felt strange seeing as his face closely resembled that of a human minus a few details but otherwise he would've passed for one. Maybe that was the plan, to make sure those robots looked human and sounded human, so you could trust them easier. However, (Y/O) still on the ground stared between him and his outstretched hand, almost unsure if you should trust him and take his hand.
Robot's POV
It was a simple job that he was made and created to do: Protect life and contain the virus. His whole purpose was to do just that and he carried and executed it very well. Saving those that he could from the aftermath of an apocalyptic outbreak. Of course he couldn't always be the one to save people nor could he save everyone in the first place. There came certain situations where he couldn't and he would have to let it go. His mind not really having the ability to react or respond to seeing such things was probably the only upside to being a robot. Otherwise he had very human-like things. Like his appearance, his voice, to feel a few select emotions, and the ability to talk freely.
It was a decent job but it quickly started to grow slow and feel like he almost never did anything anymore other than wander around aimlessly looking for the next person to save. He knew it was because most everyone seemed to have succumb to the infection or were otherwise dead from natural causes and crumbling buildings. If he could feel sadness he was almost certain this job would be a lot more draining and he'd probably have given up long ago. But he had to keep pushing forward with his goals in mind and with the thought that if there was anyone else left then he should be there to help them when in need.
And that's when he just so happened to come across someone in need of help. He had quickly charged up his blaster and fired at the zombie that had thrown itself at its victim. The body exploded and parts of it went flying with a splatter of blood around it. Moving closer to the would be victim they seemed quite afraid, and doing the only thing he could think to do he held out his hand and said, "Do not be afraid, for I am here now. Let me help you to safety."
