"Sam! Can you come here please? I have a surprise for you!", a lovely female voice said. A little boy with spruce brown hair and chocolate brown eyes, who just turned four years old, toddled to his mother. He learned to walk at the ago of two and a half and was able to talk in some sentences or at least he was trying to.
Sam looked at his mother's eyes with excitement that he's eyes were sparkling. The mother giggled a bit. "Follow me", she said, giving her little boy a signal to the direction where to go. Like a little puppy was the boy following his mother outside to the garden. Sam got a bit confused and many questions flew through his little mind. They stopped in front of a box covered with a blanket. "Surprise!", the mother said happy as she removed the blanket from the box, which turned out to be a cage for...
As Sam realized what the surprise was, he let a happy squeak out and jumped around a bit before hugging his mother. Sam got a white bunny for his birthday. "What name do you want to give your new pet?", the mother asked. Sam thought for a few minutes. "Snowball! Snowball!", the small boy said with excitement, jumping up and down again. The mother laughed softly. "Alright. I make a little sign later with the name on it, ok?", the mother told her son. "Now now!", the tiny boy squeaked happily. The mother looked a bit worried but tried not to let it show. "Not now, Samuel. I will make the sign later, alright?", the mother assured him. Sam got a bit sad. "Don't worry, darling. You can help me later if you want but only if you go to your room until dinner, alright?", the mother said as she picked up her son and gave him a little tap on the nose. "Okay, Mama", Sam happily said. His mother put him down and Sam ran happily into his bedroom. Not even five minutes later and the father of the little boy came back home from work. He was really stressed and absolutely pissed after work. The mother quickly made a plate with lunch ready. She put it on the table then she left the kitchen, hoping that her husband didn't noticed her. It was completely quiet in the house, not a single noise was heard.
Sam was happily playing with his toys in his room, not knowing what would happen next. The little boy could hear steps coming closer to his room. Then there was another sound, also steps but quicker. Sam stopped playing for a moment. He froze when he suddenly heard his mother scream in pain for a second. Then he heard a deep voice yelling loud enough for the little boy to hear. "Please let him be! He's just a kid!", a once lovely and calm, now worried and full of fear voice screamed and begged the rough deep voice. Sam could hear a sound of a slap followed by a scream of pain by the same voice, that tried to beg for no violence towards the little boy. Tears started to roll down the boy's cheeks as he started to shake of fear. Steps started to come closer to Sam's room, each step made the little boy shake even more and panic started to crawl up the small body of the boy. "I WON'T LET YOU HURT HIM!", the voice of the mother yelled protectively. "Get out of my way you stupid bitch!", the rough voice replied followed with another hit and a scream as the mother fell. It was quite for a moment as a argument between the two parents broke the silence. Sam managed to move again, trying to find a good place to hide. The closet was to obvious but under the bed was also obvious. Sam decided to hide under the bed, so he did. The little boy covered he's ears as soon as he crawled under the bed. Minutes flew by like seconds, maybe even hours passed, Sam didn't know exactly. It was quiet for a few minutes until a door slam broke the silence. So many thoughts flew through the little boy's mind: What happened? Did his father calm down? Was his mother alright? Is the father still mad? Should he look or stay hidden?
Time passed as the boy tried to figure out something that wouldn't bring him in trouble. Because if the father gets his fingers on Sam, the mother who took all the effort to protect her son would be for nothing at the end. He decided to stay hidden just a few more minutes to be sure that it's save. But not a bit later he could hear footsteps again, this time the steps were more quiet. Sam looked at the door, still hidden under the bed. The doorknob turned slowly as the door opened. "Sam?", the lovely voice of the mother asked. Sam immediately got out of his hiding spot. "Mama?", the little boy said quietly and traumatized from the argument. He got up and tried to stand again. The mother went inside the room to see her son with red puffy eyes. "Come here, Sam. Everything is fine now, don't worry", the mother assured him. Sam calmed a bit down as the mother started to softly pat his little head. After a few minutes Sam fell asleep in the arms of the mother. She put him carefully on his bed and made sure that she wouldn't wake him up. She then left the room and closed the door behind her. What the little boy didn't noticed was that his dear mother had bruises everywhere... On her hands, the face and even more. One worst then the other.
