"Where's Bryce?" I asked my mother as I came downstairs. Mother shrugged and continued cooking in the kitchen. "Mom!" I screamed. It angered me that she didn't know or care where my little brother was. "I don't know Skye," she replied, "I don't know." My mind filled with a thousand thoughts. Where could my brother be? He wasn't always the most behaved, and Lord knows what he could get into. I threw on my coat and opened the door. But just then, sirens sounded.

Usually, when the sirens sound someone is either dead or about to die. Everyone is forced to go to the town square and watch whatever torture they decide on. Who could it be this time? A sinking feeling came upon me. Oh no. What if it's Bryce?

I raced as fast as I could to get to the town square. I pushed people out of the way and screamed my brother's name. But when I got to the town square, it wasn't Bryce in the torture cage. It was my best friend Kai. I didn't know what to do. Why was Kai up there? And where was Bryce?
