"For fuck sake Alhaitham, answer the damn phone" Kaveh hissed under his breath. It was the third time in less than ten days that his housemate had accidentally taken his copy of the keys, leaving him stuck outside of his own home. And the weather was starting to change as winter approached. Days were becoming shorter, the sun was settling every day a bit earlier, and the cold was really starting to get stinging.

"Fuck, I fucking hate you" he yelled throwing his phone on the ground. He was usually calm and relaxed but he was so nervous that he was barely managing to hold back his tears. They started to prick his eyes making him feel vulnerable and exposed.

He shook his head to send them away, blinked a couple of times and realised what he had done. His phone was on the floor with the screen touching the ground. He swore again and went to pick it up, praying to Lesser Lord Kusanali that it was not broken. And clearly Lesser Lord Kusanali was not in the mood to listen to his stupid prayers. A big crack had appeared on the screen, the area around it was black, the touchscreen was not responding correctly to his fingers.

Maybe it was his fault and he deserved it, maybe it was because he was minding his own business when Sumeru needed help, maybe it was because he was just a bad person, maybe Alhaitham had all the right to hate him and do this to him or maybe he was just being too harsh with himself.

But he was tired. And for the first time he did not feel irritated towards Al, he just felt disappointed and very sad. Was he really such a bad person? Why did Al hate him so much? What had he even done to deserve so much hate? Was Al mistreating him on purpose hoping that he would have gone away sooner or later? Was he so unwanted?

It did not matter: he was not in the mood to wait for his flatmate and surely he did not want to look for him everywhere around Sumeru city. He knew that the window of his own room on the second floor was ajar. He had left it slightly open before going out. Climbing up was dangerous but it was worth a shot. He could have put up with Alhaitham any other day, but not today. Not after what had happened. He was tired and absolutely devastated. He needed to go home, lay under his blanket and die there.

And so he tried. He ventured up the balcony, climbing up while hoping not to fall. He was a scholar, his physical skills were terrible.

But this time, luck was strangely on his side. He managed to get inside in one piece, unfortunately for his flatmate.

He reached the bathroom, took a deep breath, and gathered some courage to look at himself in the mirror. A huge, black and purple bruise had already formed on his right eye. His lower lip was swollen and bleeding. And there was a huge hand print around his neck. He was never going to be able to hide that.

He washed his face gently, trying to clean the dried blood without opening the cuts. He was trying to be light, not able to bear any more pain right now.

He put a disinfectant solution on a piece of cloth and placed it under his eye and above his lip "fuck, it hurts" he flinched between his teeth. He really hoped that Al was not going to be home soon. He could only imagine the mean teasing and hurtful remarks he was going to receive if he had found out. Probably the man was going to be happy to see him in that condition. The more miserable he was, the better.

He bandaged his face with some gauze and went lay down on his bed. His project remained untouched on his desk. It was since he got stuck in that abusive relationship with Ismail that he could not find the will to draw. It was something that he really missed, but his will was lacking, his strength was missing, and his sadness was sometimes just too much to bear.

Kaveh had this toxic tendency of surrounding himself with people who did not give a damn about him. His parents had abandoned him in front of the doors of the Akademiya as soon as he was born. His teachers had rejected his thesis plenty of times because apparently, he was not good enough. His friends abandoned him when his academic results were not perfect and he was struggling to keep up. His flatmate had taken him in only because he needed someone to split the rent with. And now his boyfriend, whom at the beginning had been so kind, was starting to become violent, making him feel unloved once again.
