TW: SMOKING.

Rue sat in the school bathroom. Forest green soup flask laying on its lap, just about half filled with miso soup along with a regular caramel frappe from a local cafe. They took a small sip of said soup pushing a small strand of hair behind its ear.

Their hair was short - but not too short - and had faded green tips that had been from the countless times it had used green hair dye on their damaged hair. A mid-length, brown skirt clutched their waist, becoming flowy as it fell - just tipping over the edge of the toilet seat along with a large, oversized grandad sweater. It also wore some doc-martins, which were a size bigger to ensure they were comfortable to walk around in.

The bathroom wasn't the cleanest. Graffiti covered the walls. Doodles, people's phone numbers - because apparently that's a smart idea, the occasional inappropriate scribble and a variety of messages slagging people off. The floor tiles were in extremely poor condition. Cracks and stains of god knows what covering every inch of the bathroom floor. A mirror above one of the sinks cracked from what looked like someone punching the thing.

Rue had finished the final sip of its soup, groaning due to boredom then realising - didn't they have a red posca pen in its tote bag? It thought for a minute about what to doodle, eventually deciding on various messages such as 'Protect trans kids!' and 'Trans lives matter.' on the wall separating two of the small bathroom stalls. It's not like they would get in any trouble, given the staff had more or less given up on stopping students from doing this.

Cursing under their breath, they rummaged in their bag and located its phone checking the time. It had English in 5 minutes. Hurriedly, they shoved all their things in its bag and stood up, drink in hand making it a little cold. They threw their bag over its shoulder and unlocked the door to the bathroom stall stepping out. Taking a glance at the mirror, it made sure it looked alright pushing its fringe back to add volume to it - this school air was a pain in the ass.

Just as it was about to exit, some other person walked in. They had brown hair with streaks of blue - a light blue colour to be exact. They glared at Rue and pushed past them.

They muttered, "Get the fuck out of my way.." as they did so and Rue was a little annoyed.

Could they stop being rude to it? They did nothing to them. It sighed, really quite pissed off, and heard the sound of something small dropping just behind them. Looking at the floor, they saw a pack of cigarettes and they assumed it belonged to the other person in the room - it couldn't belong to anyone else, could it. Rue bent down and picked up the cigarettes, feeling the object being snatched out of its hands as it stood.

"I- What's wrong with you?" Rue asked, again- they had done nothing to them.

"Don't touch my stuff you twat." The brunette scowled, lighting a cigarette as they sent a death stare Rue's way.

"Fucking hell okay- I was just leaving anyway." They rolled their eyes, speed walking out and away from this bitch.

Rue quickly makes its way to class, not wanting to be late.

~Time skip: End of the day.~

God, that school was fucking tiring. Rue unlocked the door, suspecting its mother was still at work. It hurried up to its room flopping onto its bed and yawned. Rue needed a coffee, and desperately. After a couple of minutes, the brunette's phone started vibrating - it was Kit. It sighed and answered.

'Hello?' Rue said.

'Heyy!' Kit replied, 'You going to that party tonight?'

'I'm shattered- Likely not.' Rue shrugged.

'Pleaseeeeee~ I don't want to be alone!' Kit whined, Rue could hear his pout.

'I- I'm sorry but no.' It insisted.

'Rue please- It'll be funnn!' Kit tried.

'Oh my god- Your not going to leave me alone until I say yes are you-' They sighed.

'Mmmm, nah.' Kit shrugged, it could see his innocent smile through the screen.

'Oh my lord- fine!' Rue groaned, 'Only because you're going.'

'Yay! Thank youuuu!! The party starts at 7:00.' Kit stated.

'Alright, see you there.' Rue nodded, 'Definitely got to go make myself a coffee now, bye!' Rue hung up.

The 16-year-old made its way downstairs, using the coffee machine they owned - which they had literally begged their mother for - to make itself a mocha. After a few minutes, the machine beeped signifying the coffee was ready and so Rue took it having a small sip. It was good enough. They returned to their room and sat in its sensory swing for an hour or two, scrolling through snapchat stories and occasionally replying to messages.

~Time skip: Two hours later.~

Rue glanced at the time on their phone - it better get ready. Jumping out of the sensory swing they placed their phone on the bed temporarily and sat down on the seat near its desk.

After thinking about what kind of make up to do, it decided and got out the required items. Foundation, dark brown eyeshadow, blush, eyeliner, and highlighter. First of all, it applied the foundation using a beauty blender to blend it in. Then it started on the eyeshadow, placing some on the eyelid and a little underneath the eye. Picking up the eyeliner, it then did a cat style eyeliner, slightly rubbing it in.

"Shit, I forgot to get my mascara out-" Rue realised, doing so and applying it to their eyelashes carefully.

Finally, got a thicker brush out and blended in a decent amount of blush - then transitioning back to a smaller one used to rub in a small amount of highlighter on the nose and cheeks. It had a quick look in the small mirror, happy with the result. Looking for outfit inspiration, it found one it loved getting the items of clothing out of the drawers next to the bed and the remaining parts from the closet, also grabbing a select few pieces of jewellery while at it.

The outfit consisted of a pair of distressed black denim shorts, black opaque tights with a cobweb-ish pattern, a white long sleeved button up shirt, a pastel green sweater vest and forest green cardigan. Last of all, a belt with the shorts in which had a section of the sweater vest tucked in. Jewellery consisted of: a necklace - with a piece of quartz as a charm, a thin choker, can tab earrings - one black, one silver, and a select few dark grey rings.

Rue was ready. Before leaving they checked they had everything they needed. Phone, charger, pepper spray - in case of emergency, fake ID, wallet, and a bottle of water. It sent a quick message to their mom saying they were studying at a friends house, and would likely sleepover afterwards.

It made its way downstairs, thankful that their mom was still at work. Opening the door, Rue stepped out and locked the door behind. It set off towards the party.
