Chapter 1.
Hermione was sitting in her office going through some paperwork to do with werewolf rights. She had to admit, being the Minister for Magic was a boring job. It was satisfying in the long run when it was her responsible for successful changes for the Wizarding folk of Britain, but as she sat there, reading a report from 1964 about a child being killed by a werewolf, she couldn't help but wonder how much more interesting her life would be if she had become an Auror like Harry or an Unspeakable like Ron. She drummed her fingernails on her desk for a moment and gazed down at her exquisite silver engagement ring. It had one smallish diamond, that looked like it was nestled in liquid silver and the ring itself was made up of long, thin strands of silver, intertwining themselves around her finger. It had once belonged to Ron's grandmother and Hermione thought it was the most beautiful, elegant ring she had ever seen. She stared at her swirling Lapis Lazuli ceiling for a moment before getting up and making herself another cup of tea. As she sat down, a green fire appeared in the beautiful stone fireplace that was Hermione's favourite part of the office. Hermione sighed as she wondered which country would be sending someone for advice this time. However it wasn't someone from the Ministry of a foreign country, instead, the Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry stepped out into the rich blue and gold office.
"Luna! How lovely to see you!"
Luna Lovegood had been appointed Headmistress of Hogwarts the previous year, taking over from Minerva McGonagall who was too ill to carry on running the school. She was the youngest ever Headmistress of Hogwarts, being only twenty one years old.
"Hello Hermione. It's great to see you too."
"How can I help?"
"Well, I wanted a bit if unofficial advice."
"Advice? From me?"
"Well yes, this kind of concerns something I don't have a lot of knowledge of..."
"Does it, by any chance, concern the lovely new Herbology teacher?" Asked Hermione knowingly. Luna went bright red.
"Yes, I'm really glad Neville agreed to teach, the students adore him, but I think I might be in love with him."
"Luna, I think you've been in love with him for years. Just ask him out, I'm certain he loves you too!"
"Really, you think so?"
"Absolutely! Now quick get out of my office, I hear someone coming!"
"Thanks so much Hermione," and with that, she was gone in a flash of green flames, just as there was a knock on the door.
"It's open," Hermione called and quickly went back to reading her werewolf reports. The door opened to reveal her tall, redheaded fiancé, grinning at her.
"What do you want?"
"No need to take that tone with me, Minister, I was just monitoring the Floo Network and I happened to notice you had a certain Miss Lovegood come in here. Having a girly chit chat when you were supposed to be working?"
"No, Ronald, she came to ask some advice."
"Advice?"
"Yes."
"Why would she want advice?"
"Well she is the Headmistress of Hogwarts."
"Is she?"
"Oh my gosh Ron, are you that stupid? She has been for a year!"
"Oh. I didn't know that. So what did she want?"
"As a matter of fact, it had nothing to do with the school."
"So what then?"
Hermione gave him an exasperated look but couldn't keep her face stern for long as she squealed in excitement, "she's going to ask Neville out! Isn't it lovely?"
