Haley Potter wakes up suddenly from a bad dream in which an old man gets killed. The famous lightning bolt-shaped scar on her forehead  is burning with a sharp pain.  Haley tries to remember her dream. The odd thing is that the dream is from the point of view of the thing in the chair. Suddenly, it occurs to Haley that the dream is from Lord Voldemort and that Voldemort is plotting to kill Haley (as usual).

Haley is stuck at Privet Drive for the summer break. Privet Drive is where her incredibly unloving aunt (Petunia), uncle (Vernon), and cousin (Dudley) live. Haley has to stay with them because, the same night that Voldemort tried and failed to kill Haley, he succeeded in murdering Haley's parents, Lily and James Potter. So Haley stays with her mother's sister Petunia during summer holidays

Haley thinks about who she might tell about her burning scar and her bad dreams.

Hermione Granger, one of her two best friends? No, she'll just tell her to go to Professor Dumbledore. And then she'll throw some schoolbooks at her so that Haley can read up on curse scars.

Professor Dumbledore, her mentor at Hogwarts? No! Haley would feel too stupid bothering Professor Dumbledore with something this small.

Her other best friend, Ron Weasley? No, he'll just freak out and ask his dad about it, and Haley doesn't want to bother Mr. Weasley either.

So Haley decides to write to Sirius Black. Sirius Black is Haley's godfather. He's on the run for murdering Wormtail but, of course, he didn't do it. But Sirius can still get mail delivered by Haley's trusty owl, Hedwig. So Haley writes Sirius a letter and she feels better after sending this letter off.
