As Marinette sulked in her bed, she heard a sudden thump on her rooftop. The sound jolted her up. She looked around the room and grabbed the nearest weapon, fabric scissors, before slowly opening the hatch to see the black cat perched on her balcony.
He looked at her fabric scissors, eyes wide. "What are you gonna do with those..?" Chat asked.
Marinette dropped the scissors and halfway smiled. "Chat! You scared me! What are you doing out in the rain? It seems a bit early for patrol."
"Uh, no actually." Chat said. "Can I come inside..?" He asked.
"Uh sure.."
He dropped in slowly, careful to avoid getting Marinette's bed wet and climbed down the ladder. He stared at her, and awkward silence passed. She suddenly realized how terrible she must look. In her PJs, maskara running down her cheeks, her hair in a total mess.
"I-I'll go get you a towel..." She said, quicky running to the bathroom. She ruffled with her hair, and tried her best to wipe the black from under her eyes. She came back with the towels and Chat smiled.
"Thanks." He said awkwardly.
He sat on the chaise and dried his hair with it. Strands stuck up as he pulled it away.
Marinette couldn't help but giggle.
"What?" Chat asked.
"Your hair.." She said.
Chat pouted and his face grew red. "Does it look bad?" He asked as he messed with it.
"Stop! You're making it worse!" She snorted. "Let me." It felt good to laugh, and having chat around made her forget her worries.
She leaned close to him sweeping his hair back.
Chat felt heat rise to his cheeks as he noticed the position. Her chest was uncomfortably close to his face. He pulled his eyes away and but his lip.
She moved back smiling.
"There!" She said, but her playful grin dissolved and she fixed her blue eyes on him with familiarity, and sadness.
"Marinette?" He asked her. "Are you alright?"
Her expression quickly changed, as if she was burying her thoughts.
She smiled at him. "It's nothing." She said, ruffling his hair back up. "You just reminded me of someone for a second. Why are you here kitty cat?"
He hesitated.
"You have the best croissants in Paris! I was just hoping I could get a superhero discount." He said, raising his eyebrows.
"Pftt!" She laughed. "Of course you're hungry."
"Whats that supposed to mean?" He laughed with her.
"Nothing. I'll be back up in a minute with two chocolate croissants, and maybe some hot cocoa. " And with that she opened the hatch down to the kitchen and left.
Chat sat in her quiet dark room for a moment before curiosity got the better of him.
He looked around and saw something on her desk. It was a drawn design of the dress she was wearing earlier that day. It was beautiful. Marinette really had a knack for fashion. There was a note at the top of the page scribbled with a pen.
"I'm gonna finally tell him!" It read.Chat touched the paper and his heart had that stabbing pain again.
"Chat?"
Chat noir spun around quickly and saw Marinette holding a plate of croissants and a cup of cocoa. She was really quiet, he barely heard her come back up.
"I'm sorry." She said. "I meant to clean up that mess earlier."
"What are you talking about? This is a beautiful design."
She set down the croissants and tried to snatch the paper away from him.
"Thanks." She said.
"You know, you're really talented Marinette."
She laughed nervously. "It's nothing."
"You're probably going to be famous some day." He tells her.
"You're sweet." She says, holding her hand out for the paper.
Chat gave it back to her.
"I don't mean to pry," he said, "but who's that note written at the top about?"
Marinette sighed, and her eyes went dark. "Doesn't matter."
