When I was around seven years old I had met my best friend. She was small, and had big brown eyes and wavy brown hair. She was the complete opposite of me, in which I was tall and lanky and had long blond hair with small crystal blue eyes. Despite our physical differences, we liked the same things. We liked to go on bike rides, we liked to go swimming, run around, play tag, and when we got older we found our love of hiking. Being Minnesota natives there really wasn't any big climbs, so we made our goal. At 16 we decided to climb Mount Everest. Of course our parents thought that we were crazy and rejected the idea right away, so we had to wait two more years until we were adults.
Six months into our plan, me about to turn 17, we decided to go for a jog. This was normal, we had to get in shape and train our hardest in order to sufficiently climb the height. But something was off about that day, it seemed like something was wrong so I asked,

"Sophia, what's wrong?" "Do you need to stop?"

Her being the bullheaded individual she is simply replied,

"No, I'm fine."

I looked down at her legs, she was limping a bit. I asked again,

"Are you sure, because you seem to be in a little pain" as I pointed to her bad leg.

" No I'm fine, I think it's just some growing pains or something" she said.

About five seconds after she said that, she fell and started to scream, clutching her leg. I was completely scared, I called 911 and told them I needed an ambulance right away. Then I called her mom,

"Hello?"

"Mrs. Torres, Sophia needs you she's in an ambulance on her way to United" I said in a panic

"What?" "Tiffany what happened?" "Is she okay?"

"I don't know Mrs. Torres all of a sudden she fell and started screaming" "I called the ambulance immediately" " I'll meet you at the hospital, I'm headed their right now"

"Okay Tiffany, take care of her for me, I'll be their in a bit"

"Bye Mrs. Torres"

And with that I arrived at the hospital, I had to park on third floor so it was quiet a hike but I got their 10 minutes before Mrs. Torres did. The doctor came out of the room in which I assumed was Sophia's.

"Excuse me, sir?"

"Yes"

"I'm a friend of Sophia Torres and I was wondering if I could know what was going on?"

"Are you the girl that called the ambulance?"

"Yes, yes I am"

"She'll be headed for an x-Ray once a spot is open, and maybe a MRI after"

"Is she okay?" "Do you know what's wrong?"

"It could be anything, a broken leg, or tore tendon, we'll just have to see"

"Okay thank you"

About five minutes later Mrs. Torres showed up and we waited in the waiting room. I called my parents and told them where I was and they said they'd be their in a bit. After waiting for about 30 minutes a doctor came and introduced himself,

"Mrs. Torres?" "Hi I'm Riley Jacob, your daughter's doctor today"

"Hi Doctor Jacob, can you tell me what's going on?" "What's wrong with my daughter?"

"Mrs. Torres would you like to come sit with your daughter?" "We have some results back" "Is your husband here?"

"No husband, just me and Sophia. "Why can't you just tell me now?"

"Ma'am it's better if I told you both together, please come with me"

And with that Mrs. Torres followed Doctor Jacob into Sophia's room, leaving me alone in the hospital. The next five minutes were kind of a blur, I remember screaming and crying coming from what sounded like Mrs. Torres, and complete silence from Sophia. I couldn't hear what Doctor Jacob said but I definitely knew it was bad. Mrs. Torres ran out of the room crying and went for the exit. I couldn't leave Sophia alone so I went in her room. Doctor Jacob was still there, but he got the hint that he should probably leave. I climbed and sat on Sophia's bed, her just staring off into the distance. I wanted to speak, to ask her what was wrong, but I couldn't bring myself to it.

"Tiff?" She said.

"Yeah?"

"I have cancer"
