The Sorrowful Devil tavern, present in the city of Nassau, was the meeting place for all those who ran from the law, those who did not follow a kingdom, those who longed for freedom. Nassau was growing, there were no more shacks, now there were wooden houses, while a main street led from the port to the home of the old English Fleet. The tavern was the second largest building in town, thanks to what was left of the Englishmen's storehouse. The tavern had 2 floors, with the upper floor being the ladies' quarters and the lower part was the bar. The tavern was yours, a gift from Edward after losing a shooting bet. You were responsible for running the place, together with Adéwalé. You took care of the negotiations, while Adé served the visitors.

Adéwale was a slave on the sugar plantations of Trinidad since he was a child, he escaped from slavery taking 15 slaves with him, stole a boat but was captured by the Spanish. You and Edward found Adé dying. You saved him and he swore loyalty to you. You begged him several times to be free, but he told you that there was no freedom for people like him. You made a deal, to work together, enjoying the money from your work. He was your family.

It was still early, so there was no one to serve or shipments to bargain over. Adéwalé was checking some boxes, while you reviewed the requests made by Elena, a lady of company. The list was not long, but you would have to bargain with people you didn't like.

Three cannon shots were heard, announcing the approach of a ship. Adéwale turned to you, and you looked up at him. Silence. No other cannon was heard, so it was a sign that it was none of the known visitors. Adéwale hurried on, heading for a window of the tavern that overlooked the glimpse of the sea. It didn't take long before you heard feet tapping on the wood around the tavern. You knew it would be the women of the island seeking refuge from a threat.

" It's no pirate, but there is a flag, ma'am. " Adéwale said, turning from the window view to you. " They don't look like Spanish or English. "

" Adé, I am not your landlady to call me a ma'am. " You said with a serious tone of voice. " And anyway, we are prepared for any misfortune ."

You reached behind your counter for two swords, whistled at Adéwale who turned around in time to see you throwing the sword in his direction.

" Do we wait or will we receive them? " He said placing the sword in the scabbard strapped to his pants.

You just gave a smile, tapped your feet twice on the floor and left the tavern. Adéwale followed you and you walked down the main street to the port. There were some pirates waiting for whoever was the captain in charge of that ship. When the ship anchored, you could notice that the sails had a color that looked green, different from the colors of the other ships, the flag had a drawn shape that was too far away for you to see.

A trumpet caught your attention as a man in a white wig descended. You heard some murmurs and low laughter due to the man's fancy dress and his posture, but as he opened a scroll everyone was silent.

" Attention new providence island citizens ." The man's voice was loud, you could tell he had a different way of speaking. " Your Majesty, King Erik Lehnsherr, invites all those concerned to an agreement of conduct... "
