"We have reports coming in about a massive hurricane that's heading right for the coast. Studies are showing that its going to cross over half of Russia, likely leaving mass destruction in its wake. Its been labeled as a level 4, with winds of up to 250 km/h. Scientists advise that you stay indoors during this time, or evacuate further inland if you are along the coast," the woman on the tv spoke with a microphone in her hand.
Fyodor and Ivan were on the couch, watching the weather channel intensely. Both of them were leaning forward and looked rather distressed.
"When is it supposed to hit us?" Ivan asked.
"We're better off just watching and going from there. Its likely going to be very soon for us, as we are right on the coast line," Fyodor explained.
"We have the barriers ready right?" The servant asked anxiously. His was continuously tapping his foot.
Fyodor nodded as he stood up. He walked over to the kitchen and to the sliding glass doors that led to our backyard. I followed him, trying to see what everyone was getting so worked up about. There were dark clouds that created a massive circle, with a green tint. The tide of the ocean came up way farther than normal, almost covering the entire beach. I could see the palm trees bending in larger angles than usual, threatening to snap.
"What do we do?" I asked. I placed my hands on the glass as i looked out. It seemed so.. surreal. I wished that i could touch it just so i that i knew this wasnt some sort of fever dream.
"You've never experienced a massive storm?" Fyodor raised a brow.
I shook my head. "Im from Minnesota. The most we really get is the occasional blizzard. We've had a few tornados and severe thunderstorms here and there, but nothing catastrophic"
He nodded in acknowledgment. "Well, normally we would evacuate. However, I had matters of protection installed. When the time comes, we will be sealed in a metal box until it passes. Its not fool proof, but its better than leaving the house to get obliterated"
"How long until it hits?" I asked.
"Now," he pointed out towards the ocean, and i could see a vortex beginning to form on the horizon. It looked like a small tube that was just being drug through the water, but i knew better than that. That tube was not small, and it was spinning faster than i could probably visually comprehend.
Fyodor walked over to an electronic panel that was attached to the wall. He slid a lid open, and tapped a few buttons. A few seconds later the ground began to shake. I could hear the mechanical groans as i watched a line of metal poke up through the sand. The sheet of metal kept rising, blocking out the view of the outside world. Eventually, 3 other sheets met up to all form a box around the house, sealing us in. It became awfully dark, even with the lights on in the house.
"The electricity will go out soon. We should prepare the basement before it does so," Fyodor instructed us. He seemed to know how to handle this well, I had to admit. He was good in a crisis.
We all filed into a line, heading down to the basement. It was small and simple, but still nice in its own way. There was a simple couch aligned with a coffee table and a few chairs. There was a cabinet full of non-perishable food items and bottled water. Lanterns and candles lined the walls, and there was a small bathroom hidden in its own room in the back corner.
