"Are you sure that Tita won't get mad? Like for real?" Mikha asked as she swiped the card into the machine, it was already 8 o'clock in the evening but we were still stuck at the busy arcade house inside the mall with kids and some teenagers.
How do we end up here?
After catching up with our friend, Daryn, she and her boyfriend drove us to Ayala, where Mikha and I ended up buying stuff we knew that we wouldn't be needing. "I should be the one asking you that! Are you sure that Tita won't get mad at you?" I stormed back and pressed the button to start the game.
"I think they wouldn't naman besides I told them that I'm catching up with you because for sure once the second semester starts we'll be both busy na" she explained while throwing balls to the clowns, our conversation may seem unusual for both nineteen years old college students but we both grew up in an Asian household where mothers are protective towards their daughters.
Mikha and I have known each other since we were in high school, senior high school, to be exact. Both of us took Accountancy and Business Management but I ended up taking Pharmacy while she took Accountancy in college.
It's like faith. On the first day of school, we instantly clicked and from then we became inseparable and shared similarities and differences. We know each other's mom, know each other's secrets and such. We always got each other back, and we were so lucky to have each other.
She knew me too well, to the point she knew how to make me fold and act all shy in front of my senior high school crush and his friends. She would always make way for him and me to have a short conversation and then brag that she's our number one fan and no one can take that spot from her. That's Mikhaela Farinas is.
"Earth to Abigail, are you still there?" Mikha waved her hands in front of my face and started laughing like crazy. "Ano? You remember him, no?" there she goes, and her teasing tone and annoying smile again that she always used to tease me! "Huh?'' Once again she laughed at me and tapped my shoulder. Tuwang tuwa na naman 'to.
"There's a guy who looked exactly like him kasi na dumaan kaya I thought you remember him" dagdag nya pa na parang proud na proud sa sarili that's why I hit her with the ball I'm holding. Napakaingay talaga ng bunganga!
"Aray!" she exclaimed, earning looks from the people inside the arcade. That's why I covered her mouth and mouthed sorry to all the people looking "Loko ka talaga. Tara na nga umuwi na tayo, baka malugi na sayo yung arcade dami mo na ticket" sagot ko at saka siya hinila sa counter to let her exchange the tickets we got for some prizes so we can go home na rin.
When we reach the counter, magiliw niyang itinuturo ang cute na penguin na nakasabit. Inabot sa kanya ito noong clerk after swiping her card. She even did a mini dance after receiving it kaya napailing nalang ako. "No wonder he's teasing you na you are five years old lang" I teased her back kaya sumimangot siya and even rolled her eyes. "Inggit lang sya" she stormed back before handing me the blue one.
8:30 PM, we decided to go to the supermarket since Tita ordered her to buy groceries since they're planning to cook carbonara for her. This isn't our first time grocering together since we're living under one roof this college despite attending different universities; we share doing house chores, and when it's my turn to cook our meals, she will wash the dishes and vice versa.
"I'll go muna sa dairy section!" paalam niya while pushing her basket cart. "Make sure na di ka bibili ng dalawang gallon of ice cream!" pang aasar ko sa kanya kaya she sticked her tongue out and mas binilisan niya ang pagtulak sa cart nya. "Don't buy junk foods din, med student ka pa naman" sigaw nya pabalik kaya napailing nalang ako before going to chips sections and picked two bags of my favorite chips saka ito nilagay sa pushing cart ko.
