Kaitlin:
I was home shrivelling in my bubble bath after pretending I didn't find Leon inhaling the last of my week supply of food when I got home. All that was left was the lasagna I'd frozen.
Roman's text message cheered me up, He shit himself.
At least something worked out.
I texted back thanks and fantasized about what Roman did to the rapist. Did he fly him around, pretend to drop him a couple times? Flash him his fangs? Nearly suck him dry? Cut his dick off? All the above? That didn't seem like enough but knowing Roman, he did a lot better than that.
Sleep came quick and went just as fast. Since sleep refused to greet me again, I grabbed joggers and a hoodie and went out for an early morning run. Quinn was a lazy bum and followed me on his motorcycle. I pretended he wasn't there and he got the message quick after I ignored his first complaint.
I tried buying him coffee and doughnuts as an apology but he refused too firmly. He told me to buy Sethan coffee and I ignored him during the whole run back home. He swapped with Jared when we got back.
I decided not to wait for enough complaints from the fae to pile up. I needed to tell Devlin to tell Sethan to back off. This was ridiculous and has gone on long enough. I was texting him when Leon spoke out,
"We're out of cereal."
We, I was gathering, was a word Leon only used when it came to food. I was starting to understand why Sethan kicked him out. The boy was a bottomless hole with no manners. Was I supposed to train Leon? That didn't seem right. Sethan had Leon begging last week. I made a point of ignoring him and peaked over at Jared who had joined Leon and Javier at my small dining table.
"Is Sethan back?" I asked.
"Not that I know of. He was supposed to be back yesterday."
"Isn't that a problem?" Why was I getting worried? Jared had told me a few days ago that Sethan had gone to see the Marrok. As a new Alpha, he was expected to visit him.
"Adonis doesn't seem worried." Jared shrugged.
"Wait, Adonis is Beta now?" I asked because Gabriel had introduced another as his third when Sethan had been away. Now that I thought about it, I hadn't seen him when we flew to find Elizabeth and the demon.
"I was surprised too. I thought he was the brooding gardener." Jared explained.
Another shock. How the heck did Jared mistake black Hulk Adonis for a gardener? "He gardens?"
"Best tomatoes I've ever eaten." Jared smiled in memory and Javier nodded.
"He had no choice but to step up now that Yoon left." I eyed Leon but didn't ask him to elaborate. I was feeling petty and I already suspected that the leaving had to do with me. Yoon didn't like that Sethan was trying to get me to join them.
I interrogated Leon, "Did you find a job yet?"
"What's that?" was his reply. It earned him a hard elbow from Jared. I smiled my thanks and Jared gave me a small nod in return.
My phone vibrated,
D: If I could, I already would've.
K: You're bowing out to the wolves?
D: No. He claimed you and the law goes that only you can reject him.
K: What the hell do you think I've been doing?
D: You've got an interesting approach to saying no.
K: What the heck does that mean?
I reread Devlin's last message and my phone vibrated once more.
