Lando Norris - Only thing I'm good at: in which Y/N is a student and while Lando admires her intelligence, he can't help but doubt himself

"... which leads me to my conclusion that science can never be entirely objective no matter the empirical evidence as science is a product of humans and humans, in turn, are shaped by their societal context in terms of not only their findings and research biases, but also in terms of the research questions themselves", you conclude the presentation of your master's thesis.

Smiling at your professor and examiner you thank them for their time and then turn to your family and Lando sitting in the front row of the lecture hall. Your mom was trying to suppress some tears because of how proud she was of you and your dad was clapping his hands so hard you were afraid they were going to fall off. But the one face you were happiest to see was the one of your boyfriend, Lando, who could not have looked prouder. He was grinning from ear to ear while clapping so loud you could basically only hear his set of hands clapping for you.

"You did it! Honey, I'm so proud of you!", said your mom as she hugged you so tight that all the air left your lungs.
"Well done, love!"
"Thank you, dad! Thank you, mom! I'm so glad you guys could make it."
"Of course, Y/N, we wouldn't have missed it for the world. We'll just go say hi to the others and meet you outside, is that alright?"
"Yes, of course, I'll see you guys outside"
, you replied as you turned to Lando who was standing a bit behind them to let you have your little celebration with your parents before stealing you away.

"That was singlehandedly the most incredible thing I've ever heard! I am so proud of you, babe!", Lando cheered as you basically jumped into his arms.
"I can't believe I just defended my master's thesis. I'm so happy to just be done with it", you smiled into his neck, being the happiest and most stress free you had been in a long time.

The little celebration you had consisted of a dinner with your family, Lando, and some close friends of yours. It was a wonderful evening, the pride radiating off of your parents while gifting you a voucher for a city trip to Rome as a congratulations. Even Lando had a present for you – a gorgeous silver necklace with a diamond pendant hanging from it.
"Congratulations my love", he whispered before kissing you softly on the lips.

Two weeks later, Lando and you were walking through the streets of Rome. Enjoying his winter break with you was definitely his favorite part of the year and even more so now that delicious ice cream, wine and pasta was involved. The scenery in Rome was truly captivating – one second you're in the middle of houses with tiny balconies and big plants and the next you're in front of the Colosseum. You made a wish at the Fontana di Trevi and imagined what life was like for the people that lived in the times when the Forum Romanum was more than just impressive ruins.

That evening Lando and you were sitting on the balcony of your Airbnb, self-made pasta in front of you and a glass of wine in your hands. You were wearing a flowy summer dress and had your feet propped up on the railings as you sighed happily. The weather was wonderful – the last sunbeams illuminating your face softly and a light breeze making the temperature just perfect.

"I'm so happy here", you sigh contently.
"Me too", Lando said while studying your face intently. He had always been so fascinated by you. He couldn't help it. It wasn't just your looks or your kindness or your wit, it was also your ability to enjoy life in its smallest details and how smart you were. Especially how smart you were. Sometimes it left him wondering why you were even with him. He wasn't usually that self-conscious but after having heard your master thesis and not having understood even half of it, he couldn't help but wonder if you would ever get bored of your conversations. If you would ever look for someone that could talk to you about philosophy and science and the universe in the same deep intellectual intensity that you did.

"Do you ever think I'm stupid?", he asked before he could stop himself, immediately regretting having said anything at all.
Your eyes flew open as you almost fell from your chair. "Stupid?", you asked incredulously. "Where is that coming from?"
"Oh, nothing, just forget I said that",
Lando tried to do damage control but you had already seen his slightly glossed over eyes indicating that it was not just a passing thought but something that had been weighing on his mind.
"No, Lando, babe, where is this coming from?", you asked softly as you put down the glass of wine on the small wooden table in front of you before putting your hands on his knee while trying to look him in the eyes. He kept avoiding eye contact so you knew it was bad. It was only something he did when he was either on the verge of crying or crying.

Lando put his head in the palms of his hand and took a deep breath.
"I don't know, just ever since I heard you at your presentation – I mean I always knew you were incredibly smart, but I didn't even understand half of it. It just made me think that, you know, what if you need someone who understands what you're saying in cases like these. What if you want someone that can actually help you with that stuff and further your thoughts and not just look at you like an idiot."
"Oh Lando", you started softly, realizing that this was not the end of his train of thoughts but just the middle of it and letting him continue.
"I mean you know me, you know I'm happy with what I do, but it's the only thing I'm good at. I'm good at driving cars but I cannot offer you more. I'm just scared of the day when I'm not good at driving cars anymore and what can I offer you then? I'm not as smart as you, Y/N, and I have no idea how I'm going to keep up." Lando had started crying in the middle of his monologue, trying to wipe away the tears that streamed down his face.
"Oh my sweet darling", you said quietly while standing up from your chair and wrapping your arms around his lowered head. His hand left his face and held onto your arms instead while he buried his face in your neck.

"Lando, my darling, listen to me", you told him as you lifted his sad face with your fingers. He could barely look you in the eyes and it broke your heart to see him like this. "You are one of the most intelligent people I've met, Lando. And don't think I'm just saying that. You know yourself how much skill it takes to drive those cars and the speed in which you think through every single thing in milliseconds is so impressive. But not only that, my love, you are intelligent in so many ways. Your emotional intelligence is absolutely incredible, the empathy you feel for people is a gift that not many people have. Being witty is being intelligent, being funny is being intelligent, being caring is intelligent. You are very, very intelligent Lando, and having you in my life has made it so much better in every way possible. I would've fallen in love with you even if you weren't driving cars because you offer me what no one else can. You inspire me, you make me want to be better, you're the person whose perspective can change mine. I love you so much, Lando."

Lando's blue eyes were now dry, looking at you with so much love it almost took your breath away.
"I love you so much, Y/N", Lando said, believing every single word of what you're saying. How could he not when you were the person he trusted the most. Hearing you saying that filled his heart with love, even more love, if that was even possible. Truly the luckiest guy in the world, he thought to himself.

Truly the luckiest girl in the world, you thought to yourself while placing a sweet kiss on Lando's soft lips.
