There comes a moment when you hold your entire life in your very own two hands, and you know… you know it will all be gone in seconds, everything vanishes. So hold on tight, and never let go. - Becca Ash

 Chapter One

I find myself walking through a familiar hallway. I’m at school, my freshman year, holding onto the one thing I fear of losing. I suddenly fall to my knees, all I see is red. I hear him beside me yelling my name, tears in his eyes. I see others scrambling, a teacher trying to help, and then everything turns to black. Faintly, I can feel myself lying on something soft, being carried down the stairs. I hear a voice I don’t recognize, “Sir, you have to stay here.” Him yelling again, at a distance, “No, I won’t stay here; I’m going with her!” he demands.

I see red and blue lights, and everything goes black again.

All I see is bright white light, my muscles ache, it’s cold. I see an IV running to my arm, tubes dangling, and then I find what I’d really been searching for. He mumbles, “Baby?” and pushes himself out of his chair, and rushes over to me. He holds my face in his hands and kisses me repeatedly, and I can’t help but smile. He entangles his fingers with mine and runs the others through my hair, “I thought I’d lost you, baby,” he says.

It’s still unclear to me what happened, but truthfully, I don’t care. I only craved to be near him, feel him against my skin, to hear his voice that frees me. My arm is outstretched, my hand against his face, while the other held by his. “I Love you,” I said. I smile at him, and hear him gently respond, “I Love you more,” and I close my eyes…

The cardiac monitor begins to ring, there’s a green straight line across the screen, and he’s screaming her name as nurses and a doctor rush in. They check her pulse, nothing, and the doctor begins CPR. Stumbling, he begins to back away, his back hits the wall as he crashes down to the floor, knees to his chest and he looks in shock, tears endlessly rolling down his face as he covers his mouth in disbelief. He hears the doctor repeat himself “Clear!” and the pads shock against her chest, though it seems so far away, that defiant tone of death is what he hears… he is torn.

I lurch away from my pillow to see the sun just barely rising. I quickly look around me, I’m in my bed and my cheeks are wet with tears. I lie back down, petrified and I tell myself “It was just a dream… everything’s alright, you’ll see him soon.” and I drifted back to sleep.
