It was cold in the house when I woke up Jo was still sleeping but my father and brother were going to work and I just couldn't sleep through that. I started walking downstairs with a blanket around me. It was completely dark no lights on outside it was shimmering. I arrived downstairs and my mother and father were standing there arguing. "You can't go through with that think of the children," my mom said angrily. "I am thinking of the children why else would I do this" he yelled back putting his axe in his belt. I walked in and the room went completely quiet. "Hunny what are you doing up so early," my mom said to me. "I couldn't sleep when I heard dad and Nico" I respond hugging my father and he picked me up. "Come on hunny let's get you breakfast," my mom said and grabbed me over from dad. "Dad and Nico are going to work and we are going to get some bread how does that sound," my mom said and dad kissed my forehead and left. I ate my breakfast and Jo came downstairs. We all sat around the table in silence like most days. It was mostly just us girls all the time since my father worked from sun up till late in the evening. "So shall we go to the market," my mom said and Jo and I put our shoes on exited.
When we arrived at the market we went straight to the baker since we desperately needed bread. On the market, they mostly sold wood-like things rather than any food or other things. While my mom was bargaining with the baker Jo and i started running through the people looking for the candy stand "first one gets the most" Jo said grabbing my ankle and falling face first on the concrete. I'm used to her foul games by now I even learned a few myself. I get up and catch up to her finishing first. "Hah, I win you lose," I said sticking my tongue out "na na na". Jo stood there pouting hoping she got some sympathy from the candy stand worker. "She won fair and square here you go girls," he said and gave me the bigger bag. "That's not fair I'm older" Jo pouted "you won the first time" the worker responded. We ran back and saw, mom with two big loafs of bread and a smile on her face. "Look at you two got your candy again," she said cheery. "Just two girls save the rest okay," she said and we started walking towards the town square. where my brother was already headed with my dad after work. It's his last time luckily so after this we are done for a while at least. He did apply for tesserae this year so he has a big chance this year. Anyway everyone does that.
We arrived at the town square and everyone was there behind ropes. I saw Nico all the way to the front. Dad started walking toward us and threw me on his shoulders so I could see and mom took Jo on her shoulder. You could clearly see the fear in their eyes and everyone else's. We were standing close to the twelve-year-olds and even they were so scared. As Effie walked out the and some kids started crying. The video started playing and everyone was quiet. "Oh how great now the time has entered that we pick the brave young man and women to represent district 7 in the 58th annual hunger game's" she said and no one moved an inch. "Now Ladies first" and she shuffled over to the glass bowl with names. She ruffled through it a bit before she took a piece of paper out of the bowl. "Julie Marona" she then loudly through the Mike. Then a fifteen-year-old sniffed and walked over. A woman next to us started crying loud and dad tried to comfort her a bit. I didn't know her but she was a friend of dad and mom. "Now for our male tribute," Effie said ruffling in the bowl again. "Alex thunder" and a twelve-year boy started walking toward Effie. His face was full of tears and his head was down. That poor little boy. He joined Julia and Effie on stage. "Here are our tributes from district 7. well go on give each other a hug" they give each other a hug and the boy cried all over her pretty dress.
"Happy hunger games and may the odds be ever in your favour"
And they are taking the tributes inside and the peacekeepers take away the robes. All the kids reunite with their families and so does my brother and he is finally done. "So how's my little family doing now that we're done for a few years," he said laughing. "God finally right," my father said putting me down and hugging Nico. "I'm just glad you okay" mom said whipping a tear away.
When the gun went off and the whole district was watching how Julia and Alex were running through the water. Alex was the first one to go not even three minutes in. He was speered at least I think because my brother covered my eyes for a while. Julia was just seconds later. Many went home after that but I stayed with Nico all night. when it was dark we walked home together. "How did you prepare for something like that," I asked on our way. "Well, some districts have a school for that they think it's the greatest honour" "to die" I finished. "Well yeah," he said "why don't we have this that sounds like a good idea," I said questioning. "We do not agree with games here we agree with the peace but do all those kids have to die for that don't think so"
He said "but you don't have to think about that right now," he said picking me up and bringing me home. The next morning I took matters into my own hands and I started walking through the woods to the border. I know he said I won't have to think about it but I can't stop. The way those two were killed I just want to be prepared if I ever get picked. I started to reach the border I knew because I heard the sea roaring against the tides. I saw the fence in the distance and I took my shoes off to feel the sand in my toes.
District 4
I approach the border and I see this boy around my age-fighting, training with a spear. "Hey" I yelled and he walked over "hey what are you doing by the border," he asked. "I wanted to train like you" I respond "but what are you doing by the border," I asked. "Well, I'm here to practice and it's always quiet here," he said putting his spear down. "And I like the sea" "I do too". "Oh, so you can help me perhaps," I said intrigued. "Oh I can help," he said. "Tomorrow same time same spot and bring a rope," he said and I walked back already "I'm Finnick by the way" "I'm Minerva nice to meet you" yelled backThat was five years ago and I've been seeing Finnick every day ever since.
