You hadn't heard from Black in a couple days. It's not like you wanted to see him, but it was strange that he hadn't contacted you about anything! None the less, you continued with your studies. Professor Weasley was talking to Garreth, her nephew whose potions kept getting out of hand. Professor Sharp had become increasingly angry by the amount of incidents that had stacked up over the past year. It was quickly becoming apparent that Sharp was on the brink of blowing a fuse. You walked into potions class where Sharp was sitting at his desk looking tired as ever.
"Miss L/N." He called across the room. You took a deep breathe and walked over to the desk, passing your curious classmates.
"Yes, professor?" You ask. He took a moment to answer as he sat up in his chair.
"I want you to watch Garreth today, please. I do not want more of his lunacy disturbing my class." Sharp explained, eyeing Garreth from across the room.
"I see. I can do that, sir." You say, walking back to your work station. Luckily, your station was right next to Garreth's. You waited for class to begin and you noticed Garreth already beginning to mix ingredients. "Garreth!" You whisper, "What are you doing?"
"I am simply creating the future! When my concoctions become famous you'll brag about how you knew me as a simple school boy." He laughed, picking up another ingredient.
"Professor Sharp won't like this." You warn, but Garreth didn't seem to care. "Garreth if you get in trouble...I can get in trouble and I don't want that! We also know that he won't hesitate to expel you if you go too far!" You hiss as Professor Sharp stood up. He looked in your direction and you pretended that nothing was happening.
"It's going to work this time! Don't worry..." Garreth smiled, stirring the forming potion.
"Garreth!" You hiss, watch Professor Sharp.
"Today class we will be learning to brew--"
"Oh no!" Garreth yelled, covering his head. The potion exploded as you were knocked to the floor. You slowly stood up, clutching your head.
"Is everyone alright?" Professor Sharp came to your aid, making sure you weren't badly injured. His face was stern as he looked towards Garreth.
"Sir, I'm sorry I was trying to tell him--"
"Not now, Miss L/N!" He snapped, handing you a wiggenweld potion. He walked over to Garreth and began to chew him out. You stood by and waited for the tension in the room to dissipate. Luckily, you had one saving grace. A surprising, but yet also surprisingly welcome.
"Professor Sharp I request that I take Y/N out of class for a few minutes." Professor Black walked into the classroom. Sharp and Garreth stopped bickering and stared at Black for a moment. "Am I interrupting something?" He asked looking between you and Professor Sharp.
"No, Professor." Sharp muttered, walking over to you. "May I ask why?"
"It is a private matter that can stay between me and Y/N." Black said, motioning for you to follow him. Sharp let you go reluctantly. You looked at Garreth one more time before leaving the room with Black.
"Why did you want to talk to me?" You ask as you both head towards the library. Black looked around, making sure no one else was around.
"It is about your blood." He hissed, opening the library door and walking down stairs. The librarian glared at you, but Black glared back at her. Peeves flew above them.
"You're in trouble! Troublemaker! Troublemaker! Troublemaker!" He laughed and twirled. Black unlocked the restricted section and walked into the closed off section of the room. He sat down on a pair of chairs that were in the corner by the opening to the true restricted section. You followed him as he pressed his lips together.
"My blood, sir?" You ask, awkwardly fiddling with your thumbs.
"You are a half-blood." He said, "That is an issue. Pure bloods are important to keep the secrecy and the power of our wizarding world together. I've tried very hard to get rid of those who are not pure of blood. My efforts have amounted to nothing, but I digress." You watched him twirl his wand in his hand. Was he planning to do something with it? Was he going to kill her?
"I have powers that surpass those of pure blood. You shouldn't underestimate me or anyone else." You say harshly. Your eyes pierced like daggers into his.
"I must admit that you have some redeeming qualities that make you less annoying than the rest. I just find that this information will put tension between us...but we both want to figure out what these windows mean." Black smiled, flicking his wand as two goblets appeared. You were shocked by his sudden change in mood. A jug of butter beer appeared and poured into the goblets like a waterfall. He put his wand away and took a sip of his butter beer.
"I'm flattered?" You question, looking into your goblet.
"I'm glad. Now we need to discuss the windows. I have a theory that I wish to discuss." Black looked dead serious as he lowered his voice. He looked through the bars of the closed off restricted section to see if the librarian was listening.
"You have a theory? Did you find something?" Your eyes widen. Black nodded, checking one more time to see if anyone was listening.
"We both saw Cornelius Hopkirk in our memories and these windows have specifically reached out to us. Maybe it's trying to bring us together for something." Black theorized, stroking his beard.
"Why would we need to be together?" You wonder, taking a sip of your goblet.
"You've defended Hogwarts from evil forces before...maybe a new threat is revealing itself." Black and you exchanged a look of worry, but you both know that it might be true.
"The best we can do is not worry. Maybe this is just a way for us to get to know each other...for reasons?" You make a nervous smile, but you shake your head in shame. There couldn't be another Ranrok could there? They hadn't confronted the real Cornelius, so maybe someone was trying to play them. Rookwood and Ranrok were some of the worst wizards you have ever met and the thought of someone like them threating Hogwarts again was terrifying.
"It is going to be hard not to worry." Black said. Suddenly, a blast of purple magic hit's the wall next to them. You and Black pull out your wands and turn to face where the blast had come from.
"Good. You should be worried." A man hisses from the shadows. "Expelliarmus!" Their wands fly back and the man walks into the light. "Accio!" The wands fly into the man's hand. He wore a purple waistcoat and matching coat, dark blue trousers, and white gloves. He looked like a magician. He had blue eyes and brown hair with a large scar going down one side of his face. His skin had purple glowing cracks that lit up like stars in the night.
"Cornelius..." Black hissed. This was the third time they had ever ran into him and yet he seemed to change every time they met.
"Hello, Black. Long time no see...oh wait...the windows gave you a little sneak peek, didn't they?" Cornelius smirked, twirling his black with silver lining wand.
"You created those windows?" You ask, stepping in front of Black. Cornelius' smile grew larger.
"Y/N! My how you've grown." Cornelius said, "I should've known that Black would attract you." Black and you glare at each other which Cornelius decided to ignore. "Now...why don't we have a little fun?"
"I think I'm a little too tired to do anything, so I will return to my office." Black muttered, but Cornelius didn't seem to agree.
"I'm afraid we have more to discuss before I can let you leave...especially now that I have found my two favorite people ever. One person who is just like me...and another who will sadly have to die...for the ideologies his family has bestowed upon him and this entire school." Cornelius began to laugh as Black and you realized who the next Ranrok might be.
