Chapter One
Aurora
The bell signalling the start of lunch blared across the campus at Fairstate High School. The pupils rushed from classes to lunch hall or towards the library, eager to meet up with friends and catch up on the latest plans for the Friday night ahead.
I was no different. Sat at the back of library, after my free period, I waited for my best friend to meet me. Trisha 'Tis' Parks was a leggy brunette; her bright chocolate brown eyes scanned the library, for my dull blue ones. I met her when I moved to town after my mother died, when I was six. Someone had pushed me into the sandbox, after calling me weird for not having a mother, Tis stepped in and proceeded to spit on the boy for being rude to a 'Princess' and ever since we have been inseparable,
"Hello Bae," Tis slammed her blue backpack down on the table before sliding her long denim clad legs under the table and sitting on the seat beside me, her body turned towards me,
"Do you call everyone that," I greeted with a wink,
"Only you baby girl," I chuckled in reply
"How was world history?" Tis pulled out an apple from her backpack before taking a bite and replying,
"I wouldn't know, I was too busy staring at Billy Hayes to concentrate,"
Billy Hayes was a tall, blonde, beach obsessed member of the school's football team and currently Tis's latest obsession. Don't get me wrong, Billy was hot, but he was a jerk, the only reason Tis paid him any attention was to piss of her older brother,
"I can't imagine Brian giving you two his blessing,"
"Yeah well Brian can go suck a big co...,"
"Surely you two should know the rules of this library by now, Miss Parks and Miss Blaine?"
Tis was interrupted by Agatha Couldan, the latest librarian. The position always had a vacancy; word was a curse was placed on anyone who succeeded in becoming the school librarian, that's why they always ended up quitting every few months,
"We were just leaving Miss Couldan,"
Tis replied giving a bright smile, full of white shiny teeth, before standing up and swinging her backpack over one shoulder before walking over to the doors that lead out into the busy halls. I quickly followed in suit, smoothing out my brown dress before chasing after Tis's long legs; being only 5'2, I was a dwarf in comparison to Tis's model like height of 5'8. Finally catching up to her, I had to practically run to keep up,
"Where are we going?" I asked panting slightly, damn I was unfit,
"Lunch Hall, Billy will be there and any opportunity to Perv on him, I'll take,"
I giggled to myself as we finally reached the doors of the lunch halls. Two big red doors blocked the peace and quiet of school life, from the dramatic of high school. Fairstate High was the same as any school, including its cliques. The cheerleaders sat with the football players in the middle of the room, to their left were the basketball team and to the right, the soccer team. The Nerds sat at a table in the far left corner, while the Art Geeks the far right corner. The alternative gang sat at the back with the people who were rumoured to be part of a gang outside of school. Everyone else just scattered across the remaining tables.
Tis was considered popular by family relations; he brother was the captain on the football team. I was the weird one who barely spoke to anyone with no parents who followed her around. After losing my mother, my father began travelling more, he was rarely home meaning to the outside world I was an orphan, I guess I got tired of correcting everyone, it was easier to just be the 'weird one'. The only thing that stopped social service appearing at my door was the hefty money check that arrived every month from wherever my father was in the world. I stopped questioning where it came from years ago.
