Notes: Hiii, so this is my first work for The Last Of Us so I'm real nervous about posting this but the show just finished and I'm really missing Ellie and Joel so much already so I decided to write this.
the idea came from the picture of hbo Sarah where she has little doodles on her jeans but this can be interpreted however you like as game Ellie and Joel or show Ellie and Joel as I didn't put in a description of Sarah in.
Also I decided Tommy and Maria are having a girl because the Miller men are girl dads and I named her Violet because it's one of my favourite names right now.
Title is from Almost (Sweet Music) By Hoizer
Anyways hope you guys enjoy <3

Once they got to Jackson, Joel settled in quickly, everyone taking to him, loving him, with the knowledge that these people were good people, that they weren't going to hurt him or Ellie, he became a little more relaxed, a little more Joel.
Ellie, on the other hand, was not sure how she felt. She knew there was something off with what Joel had told her about the fireflies like it was a lie but she couldn't quite put her finger on what part the lie was.
She was shyer too, Joel was striking up conversations with pretty much everyone, they all knew Tommy and Maria so they all felt comfortable approaching Joel, especially to ask for his help and advice on all things home repairs, Tommy having let slip that his brother also worked as a contractor before and was very handy when needed.
Ellie had started to talk off Joel's ear more and more, usually puns, space or dinosaurs, getting back to her usual self but never quite fully getting there. The innocence she once had faded, but not quite lost, Joel still caught glimpses of it here and there, like in the way her eyes lit up when Tommy handed her a poster that he had found that displayed all the planets in the solar system with little descriptions around them.
Tommy was taken aback when the small teen practically threw herself at him, squeezing his middle tight, repeating the words thank you a million times over.
But Ellie was still shy, especially when it came to meeting new people, she was more cautious now, still ready to fight anyone who looked at her the wrong way or stared a little too long but still shy and cautious nonetheless. She had taken to hiding behind Joel when people (adults) would talk to them (mainly him) as they walked along the streets of Jackson or as they were waiting to get their dinner. When they did talk to her it was like she was a baby or like she was broken, she never missed the pitiful looks and the sad tones from the adults that did talk to her. She hated it, she was strong and she knew that, Joel reminded her of it practically everyday, she didn't need to be treated with pity or like she was a baby just because she was from the outside.
Joel also reminded her that she was still a kid, which meant that even if she didn't like it she still had to try her very best to use her manners and be polite to the adults that talked to her. She liked that he didn't say she had to just be polite because they were adults, like the stupid FEDRA rules, respect all the soldiers and everyone older that you just because they were soldiers or older, it was so stupid especially when most of them were horrible so why should she be nice to them if they were horrible to her.
