The drive to where the car accident happened felt like forever. Matt couldn't stop shaking his leg all the way there. It annoyed Chris but he didn't say anything, he knew that Matt was just as anxious and scared as him. Justin was seated besides Matt in the back seat. Their mother insisting that he come. And while Chris loves Justin so much, he did wish they didn't have to waist time to get him. But he was here and he was trying his best to get Matt to calm down. Chris silently thanked him. He knows that he's too focused in his own mind to help Matt.
"Matt, it's going to be okay." Chris heard Justin whispering to Matt. Matt nodded in response and pressed himself closer to Justin. Chris felt guilty that he couldn't comfort Matt so he settled for resting his hand on Matt's thigh.
The car was silent except for the acasunal shushes and sweet words from Justin to Matt, even some to Chris when Justin noticed that the youngest wasn't saying anything.
It took them almost three hours because of the snow. It started to flurry during the two hour mark. Chris has never hated snow more in his life then he does right now.
The crash sight was an easy spot. There were police cars, fire trucks, a crain for crying out loud. Jimmy pulled the car to the side of the road. Him and Marylou immediately get out of the car, not caring about the freezing cold winter. It was almost five when they arrived and the sun was already starting to go down.
Jimmy and Marylou walked up to the nearest officer they could find while Justin, Matt, and Chris stayed by the car. Chris looked over to where the guard rails were smashed open. He squeezed his eyes shut at the thought of what his brother and sister had to go through. He was startled out of his thoughts when he heard Justin let out a gasped, "Oh my God." Chris looked to where Justin had moved to. He was over by the rails looking down the cliff. Chris felt a twang of anxiety when he saw how close Justin was to the edge, but he went to stand next to him anyways.
Looking down, Chris' eyes widened. He couldn't even see the ground, but what he did see was the van being lifted out from the bottom of the cliff. The car was totaled. The roof was caved in, the windows were shatterd and there was no trace of Nick or Steph.
Chris heard sharp breathing behind him. Matt had gone into a full panic attack and he didn't know how to help. It was usually Nick who helped Matt out of this stuff, Nick knew how to calm Matt down. Not Chris. Chris was the last person Matt would go to if he needed help through a panic attack. He'd go to Steph before he went to Chris, and Steph would start freaking out with Matt when she tried to help.
Matt began to pull at his hair as tears clouded his vision. Everything was too much. The snow, the car, everything. Matt shut his eyes tight as he crouched to the ground. Justin going down with him, wrapping him up in his arms as he tried to comfort his Matt.
Justin glanced up towards Chris and motioned for him to come down and help. Chris was hesitant but when he saw the stern and yet desperate look on Justin's face he plopped down next to them. Chris also wrapped his arms around Matt, shielding him away from the snow.
"I don't get it." Matt finally smoke after being silent for the last three hours. "How can they just be gone?" Matt let out a shaky breath.
"I don't know Matty. I don't know."
Another few minutes have past of them hugging on the ground and Chris was starting to get restless. "Hate to ruin such a beautiful moment, but I'm cold and I'm pretty sure I'm frozen to the ground." Justin and Matt started to laugh at Chris.
"Well, I'm warm." Matt said while still laughing.
"That’s because we're hugging you." Justin replied. Justin let go of Matt causing the younger to whine as the cold finally hit him.
