Chapter One

This is the saddest story you'll ever be told. Achieving your dreams is like a diamond. It's rough before it can be smooth. Sometimes it takes a while to achieve them. And most importantly, they can change.

During the day, I was a tutor. The rest of the time I was a bookshop owner. Right now, it's 7:45 in the morning on a Saturday. I was tiding the shop up before I opened up. I put the last book back in it's spot, then stride over to the door. I flip the sign over to "Opened". I go back behind the counter and straighten out my white shirt and forest green skirt. It went barely past my knees, perfectly acceptable for working.

I grab the book I'm reading and place it on the counter. I was about to open up and read when the door chimes, indicating that someone came in. It's just Cassidy Flores. She smiles and waves at me.

"Hi Estrella. I need a book for independent reading in class." She leans against the counter, in the towns middle school uniform.

I walked over to the shelf behind me and grab a book off the shelf. I hand it to Cassidy. It's one of my favorite mysteries, The Seven and A Half Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. She thanks me and hands me the money she owes.

No one comes around for the rest of the day. Little did I know my life was going to change very soon.
