Not The Hero and the Villain

The hero sits at the grave letting there tears fall for the villain that they felt so deeply for but never got the chance to tell them. The hero has come here nearly every day since the villains passing, crying to anyone, to the universe. Angry at the fact that they just had to be pinned against each other when neither wanted to be. But then again it was written in the script, they were meant to fight until one gives up defeat or dies. And eventually the villain had to endure the latter. This day wasn't any different for the hero, sitting and telling the villain what they've missed and how people miss them even though it's a lie. Nobody ever misses the villain, the villain is the villain, there is no feeling bad for them. They're bad, they're evil, you shouldn't miss the antagonist, but the hero sure did. The guilt that the hero feels even though it wasn't their fault the villain is now under the ground people walk all over. The thought that maybe they could've changed the storyline, made the ending happy. Instead of it ending with the town happy, the hero guilty, heartbroken, and the love of their life dead. But nobody knows that, not even the villain knew that, and I guess they never will. Someone in a black cloak watches from behind the trees, moving silently and smoothly, like a shadow in the night. Watching the hero breakdown and cry makes them ache, not with typical sadness you may think, but with joy knowing that this has a big enough effect as it does. The figure looks up to the sky only to see that the sun is beginning to set, signaling their que to leave. When they look back at the grave, the hero is gone, nowhere to be seen. The person turns to leave and gets slammed into a tree, the hero in front of them laughing, with a crazed look and fake tears streaming down their face. "Is this what you'd like to see?.." The other remains quiet given the fact that a knife is pressed up against their throat. Not scared in the slightest, trying to ignore the attraction they're feeling given the situation. "Seeing me all broken and sad. Not being able to be in power for once, is that what you wanted? Cause if that is so..." the hero slowly takes the hand that isn't holding the knife and slowly traces their body, finally reaching their hood but doesn't pull it off yet. "Then..." The hero leans closer and whispers, "You've failed your mission."  The hero presses the knife further into their throat, waiting for the person to say something, anything really. But nothing other than a wince came when the knife slowly began pulling blood from the cut because of the pressure. And the longer the silence went on the more confused the hero got, is this even who they think it is? What if they pull the hood down and it is them, they still won't know what to do exactly. "If you won't say anything, I'll just have to kill you since you are trespassing on my land." A laugh erupted from them and the hero saw red, taking the knife from the persons throat they brought it up, only to bring it back down with force. The hero closed their eyes expecting blood splatter, but there was no contact at all when the hero opened their eyes, their hand was caught. the hero opened their mouth to speak when the person decided to grab their waist to pull them closer together. The figure finally spoke, "funny how you mention this place being yours, and even funnier how you think you could actually kill me." They let the hero's hand drop to their side and guides the hero's hand to take their hood off. The hero wasn't surprised, but seeing them again months later takes their will to speak away. The silence as they stared at each other was louder than the words they could express verbally. The hero was angry, so so angry at the person standing before them. "You could never break me. No matter how hard you try. No matter how long you're gone. But that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt, Erebus." He looks down, guilt overtaking his soft but firm features. "I have known you were there, you think I can't feel your eyes on me? Following me everywhere I go. I have known since you started this. And you just now what. Decided to let me catch you?!" Anka spits. Erebus pulls Anka into an embrace, given the fact that he's never been good with words. Being the villain didn't really need words, it needed actions. And that is what Erebus is best at. "I..I want to apologize, but I'm not sorry. I needed to find something that required me to be away, and the best way to do that was to-" Anka cuts him off angrily, pushing him back "Fake your death instead of just saying you need to find something on your own?! We..we could've done it together." Erebus sighs and continues on "We couldn't have though dear. For me to find what I needed required the villain to die." The hero looks hurt by that statement but brushes it off, "Did you find what you needed is that why you're back? What did you need to find?" she says, softer than before.
The now ex villain tilts his head and stares deeply into the eyes of his 'unrequited' love and says, "I needed to find myself. Not the villain, not the man with the tragic backstory, and not the man who wants revenge, just me. And I found me, in ways I didn't even think I could, but what helped me the most? You did. I wanted to be better, for you. I want you to be able to look at me, and love me for me. I don't want to be like every other story, I want this to be ours. Not the villain and the hero. Just me and you. Would you want that?" Anka cups Erebus's face and leans close to his lips and whispers, "Of course I want that, that has been all I ever wanted ever since you pushed me off of that swing in 5th grade and started our rivalry."  They both chuckled at the memory, as Akna finally closes the distance between them.
This is the story of the Villain and the Hero who-No. This is the story of two people who wanted to love freely without titles tying their love down, so they did just that. This story is theirs, not the hero and the villain, just Erebus and Akna.
