Ruina felt malice from deep within the forest.
Malice so deep it could cut.

Ruina flew to the location of the malice, with the feeling growing stronger and stronger the closer he was.

In the end, he reached the source.
It was a house, an abandoned one.
It was made of wood, degraded to the point where a support pillar had collapsed, resulting in the house having a tilted structure.

Ruina went inside.

Inside was normal houseware, although degraded.
Ruina also noticed a picture frame.
Although the picture itself has degraded so much, it was easy to make out a man and a woman standing before a house.
Aswell as a child, a little girl.

What caught ruina's attention was the basement, and a note.
The note read:

"Congratulations, you are promoted to Great Sorcerer!

This job entails that you will protect your surrounding area (about 50 ferands) from magical beasts and invaders..."

Ruina concluded that whoever lived here, was a great sorcerer. And then he proceeded down the basement.

As he walked down the murky steps, he could hear a man's cry. It was filled with sorrow, guilt, and grief.
Ruina proceeded.

He reached the end of the stairs, and saw a man in a dark robe, perfectly fine and cleaned.
However, the man was in a chair, forever crying.

Ruina first approached the man, until he turned around and screamed at ruina.
Ruina stood silent.

"Go away!! Don't come near me!!"

Ruina's wings started to glow a bright yellow, along with his eyes.

"Is there something wrong, my child?"

Hearing this, the man burst into tears again. Ruina knew everything from the start.

"Honey, please, treat our child! She is going to get worse like this.."

"Darling I know, I've already booked a doctor to come here and asses her. He's the best doctor out there."

"If you say so.."

He was skeptical, though.
His exam was coming up, and his daughter had gotten sick.
He chose the first option, and studied all night for the exam.

The next day, he burst into the house in joy..

"Honey! I've been promoted!"

What he saw however, immediately changed the mood.

His daughter, had died. His wife crying alongside her.

"Honey..."

"Where were you.."

He stood silent.

"Where were you when our daughter was dying!?"

She burst out of the house crying

He walked into the study.

"My own daughter died.. what great sorcerer I am."

He tore the room apart.

Ruina embraced the man, comforting him all the way.
The man calmed down, and looked towards ruina.

"Thank you."

As he says this, he disappears into dust. Leaving behind a picture.
A picture of a happy man with his wife and daughter.

Ruina kept the picture in his suit.

"People sure are interesting."
